Re: High quality shell kit for 12 yr old advice options

I know you said you had some Amazon bucks or whatever, but I think the best way would be to buy a used top of the line kit in a timeless finish and common sizes. Not only will that be a set to last...

Re: Recording project needs you

The whole world has bills to pay and mouths to feed. If your chosen profession isn't doing it, that's your problem, not the industry's and especially not a dude on the internet looking to make a...

Re: Show me pics of a 10" rack, 14" floor, with a 22" kick set up

I don't have a pic handy at the moment, but this was a very common setup in the late 90's/early 00's. Usually the 14 was hanging rather than on legs. I have my buddy's PDP kit in those sizes that I...

Re: Recording project needs you

A wise man once told me, "Do things you don't get paid to do and one day you'll get paid for things you didn't do." Humility, kindness, and generosity go a long way toward success in life. I used...

Re: Buying a custom DW set

Ambassadors/G1's for higher tunings, Emperors/G2's if you like lower tunings. Clear for brighter tones, coated for warmer tones. I have Coated Emps on mine and they're low and fat with still plenty...

Re: Buying a custom DW set

I would like to type this out at least once:

I think a lot of the DW hate and "overpriced," "sound like garbage," etc comments come from 2 camps:

1. People who can't afford them and therefore...

Re: Buying a custom DW set

True this! I knew what sizes and finish I wanted. They didn't have quite so many lines and shell options when I got my Collectors kit, but I don't have a single regret. I found mine in 2014 as a...

Re: Feel vs click

I've been playing live to a click for about 8 years now. I simply view the click as another instrument in the mix and often play around or against it.

Re: Buying a custom DW set

Are you talking about the STM mount how it attaches to the drum itself? If so, there's no adjustment. It hangs on the lugs with rubber gaskets. If you're talking about the ball joint, then that...

Rapcore: A dead genre?

So growing up in the 90's, I really fell in love with Rapcore (at least, that's what we called it. I think some folks call it Numetal now).

Rage Against the Machine is the best example.
POD's...

Re: New kit day: DW Frequent Flyer, Tobacco Burst.

Thanks! I'm hoping to get an interface soon so I can put up some decent sounds and show folks how good/versatile these can sound.

New kit day: DW Frequent Flyer, Tobacco Burst.

Recently I made a change in the kit at my church. My wife delivered our third child which provided me with an opportunity to listen to the kit from the audience perspective. I was not thrilled with...

Tablet as a music stand?

Anyone using a tablet as a setlist/music stand? The setlist concept would be pretty easy, but the songbook thing might be a little more complex. A couple of the guys I play with at church use an...

Air-lift stands
Ply arrangements (orientation, not materials)
Edge snare drum

I will agree with you on their hardware being quality, if not over-built. That's why I roll with Yamaha 700 series...

Re: Unpopular Drumming Opinion Thread

Agree with you on the first line.

Here's the unpopular bit: Those who cannot respect DW drums as some of the most excellent and innovative drums in the world fall into two categories:

1) They...

Re: Steve Jordan

Yeah, to me it was sort of a signature sound that he was doing and I didn't feel that it always fit the music so well. Cool for some stuff, but would be difficult to pull off in "real life."

Similarly, I just got an Acro, 16" hats (A Fast over A Thin), 22 K and 20 K dark with rivets. Lay the groove down.

Man, I have been on a Jordan kick lately and trying to find out more about him, see/hear more of his playing. There's not a lot out there about this man and he's not active on social media either. ...

Re: Sonor Designer or DW Collectors?

Haha, yep!

As far as sound, that's a personal preference thing. As far as quality, nothing there but fanboy-ism from both sides.

I would say most, if not all, of the DW hate you read is...

DW Collector's fine tuning/setup help

Hey guys, so my new DW Collector's kit arrived last night and I'm very excited. As it was a NOS kit, there are some things it came with and others it didn't. Coming from Pearl, there are some...

Re: Sonor Designer or DW Collectors?

Are you buying for sound, looks, or value?

I doubt the Sonor will sound much different than your Yamaha. The DW's have a distinctive sound compared to other maple drums. Looks is preference,...

Just to clarify: I made up my mind so quick because I called a different store and found the same kit for $450 less! The Chicago store sold me this kit for $2450 shipped whereas the Knoxville store...
