Re: tama releases more bell brass snares

A shop near me sent an email saying they were receiving 2 6.5 x 14's. $2000 for the snare.

Sounds like a rip off to me when you can buy an Ahead 3mm bell brass snare for $650.

Re: "New" kit arrived damaged - need advice.

If you got the kit for a good price, and I assume you did since you purchased from a "trading" website and not from a true dealer's website, I would say what you got is as good as it gets. Perhaps...

Re: Brand Loyalty

I have owned, and still own, a Tama kit, Gretsch kit, and Ddrum kit. I have Roland, 2Box and Yamaha electronic gear. I have cymbals from Zildjian, Sabian, Paiste and Wuhan. I have hardware from...

Re: Sorry - this just had to be posted!

Hardware is expensive. Custom made stuff like Guru's is even more expensive. You can do hardware cheaper by using the common Asian made pot metal stuff at drum factory direct or some of the other...

Re: So how's this for bitter?

Im sure there are many reasons for why people choose to only mic a BD through a port, but it probably boils down to getting the sound they want. Sure, laziness, convention, and stubborness are at...

Re: Sorry - this just had to be posted!

One more quick question. Are you having your lugs chromed, or are those polished aluminium? I think I know the answer to this, but they do look awfully shiny for polished aluminum.

Re: Sorry - this just had to be posted!

Interesting that you drilled the lugs right at the seam between each stave. Isn't that technically the weakest point in the entire construction? I would think for strength purposes you would want...

Re: The dream vs. reality.

I woukd much rather work in shop 2 vs. shop 1. Im not a fan of working in a toxic wast suit, but the clenliness and organized nature of the modern shop, I believe, leads to a better end product. ...

Re: WOODEN HOOPS

Interesting that they put 8 lugs on a stave drum designed for 10, but I digress.

You can get hoops at pretty much any drum building website. Drumfactorydirect.com is good to work with . I think...

Are you sure there is lacquer on your nickle plated parts?

Re: Nickel finish on Tama Trackmaster snare drum

Here is a link to the Pearl Drummers Forum where a guy details how he cleans his gold plated hardware. Its pretty non abrasive and seems to work wonders. This may be the way to clean the nickle...

Re: Restoring hardware on an old kit

I have been cleaning up some old lugs from the late 70's/early 80's with dish soap and water with a toothbrush, then 0000 steel wool, then chrome polish. Overall they are coming out pretty good. ...

Re: Reso Head Port Hole

Kick port makes little ports for toms and snares. I think they have video demonstrations online so you can hear what effect it has on the drum's sound. Obviously they will paint it in a good light,...

Re: Do you own (or want to own) both acoustic and electric kits?

And you as a drummer can be completely replaced by VST software and a keyboard, so whats your point?

These are tools that a drummer can use to be more creative in his/her playing. The idea is...

Re: Do you own (or want to own) both acoustic and electric kits?

As a means of showing what is creatively possible with ectronic kits that could never be done with an acoustic, heres a little performance from Johnny Rabb:

Re: Do you own (or want to own) both acoustic and electric kits?

Thats true, I did say that. I have had a bit of an epiphony within the last few weeks regarding my e-kits. There are lots of people out there who buy electronic kits because they want a quieter...

Re: Do you own (or want to own) both acoustic and electric kits?

Nope... cant agree with that at all. Do you really think rock 'n roll would still be played on an acoustic guitar if it was only played to small groups in small rooms? They can mic and amp...

Re: Knowing yourself - sometimes it's -------------

You may have been able to play the parts and done a fine job, but someone may be able to play them better because they dig the vibe better. Ain't nothing wrong with that. At least you were up front...

Re: Do you own (or want to own) both acoustic and electric kits?

Okay, I got to make a bit of a statement here:

<stands on soapbox>
Electronic drums should not be thought as "a practice instrument." Its a completely different kit with greater imaginative...

That badge is exactly like my kit which I picked up new in 2013. I have a double tom mount instead of the single, but even that hardware looks like it has the same details. If the rack tom has the...

Re: Going retro!

Hmmmm... Kind of a "blah" logo. I find the other logo Pearl used on their President series drums is a bit more stylish for a vintage logo.
