Re: Sonor Players Kit from Sam Ash

Nice review of the Players kit. I'd love to pick one of these up to replace my Stagestars as my rehearsal kit...ah, we'll see.

Larry, you don't live too far from me, thought I'd post this link for...

Re: Good quality mid-range snares?

Good advice from Bob. If you're looking to save some $ and want a good quality, good sounding metal snare, you can also look for used Ludwig Acrolites and Pearl Sensitones. I've been using a 5"...

Re: Most versatile kit?

The other folks have offered up some good advice. Get the best cymbals you can, then figure out what drums you can afford. A pair of used New Beats, a good thin crash or 2, and a medium weight ride...

Re: DW Frequent Flyer Kit

I have a short story in regards to DW's genius marketing. In the mid 90's I was the drummer for a very popular local country band. The band leader's name was Jim, and he was a nice guy, originally...

Re: Check out my Remo Acousticons....

Never owned one, but have sat behind a few over the years. I know Remo had some issues with the Acousticon shells and tweaked the manufacturing processes a few times. Shell hardware and mounts...

Re: Ludwig's new Signet 105 drum line!

How you can sit there and claim "the lugs will not fail" and "the design is not flawed" is beyond me. Correct me if I'm wrong, but you have zero experience with these drums, correct? Yet you're...

Re: Ludwig's new Signet 105 drum line!

You're missing my point, let me try again here. I understand the concept and design, I understand the engineering, I understand the physics. I'm talking about real world usage and long term...

Re: Ludwig's new Signet 105 drum line!

Um, yea I know that. A drummer friend of mine likes to tune JAW, and also likes to hit rimshots on his toms. I'm curious how a drum with snap-on lugs would behave under these playing conditions. I...

Re: Ludwig's new Signet 105 drum line!

I'm sure Ludwig has tested what I'm about to say, but I'm curious how the lugs behave at low tunings, JAW for instance. Will these lugs rattle or 'give' more at low tension, allowing the head to go...

Lol, yeah, it was the first and most likely last time that'll happen.

Re: Thinking about downsizing

If I sell the Saturns I'm going to pick up another kit. I won't be using the Stagestars for my primary kit, just for certain gigs. After all of the experimenting and research I've done lately, I'm...

Re: Thinking about downsizing

I promised I would report back, and here I am! After a few weeks of playing, tweaking, and rehearsing with the Stagestars, here's what I've noticed.

This little "mystery wood" kit, with cheap...

Re: "2nd tom position" dead tom theory

Larry, have you thought about trying this with your toms switched, ala Kenny Aronoff? I wonder if your 10" would experience the same tone loss? Or, maybe it would shed light on if its the pitch...

Re: Thinking about downsizing

Will do Bill, thanks for hanging in there with me. I feel like I've been blowing this thread up, so I'll give it a rest for a bit and post back after my next band rehearsal and my visit to Dale's.

Re: Thinking about downsizing

So, I called a few local drum shops yesterday, and GC was the only store that had any 18" bass heads in stock, and the only one they stock is the Evans Emad. I also came home with clear G2's and...

Re: Thinking about downsizing

Just noticed you're in Bucks county. You're probably not too far from me, I'm in Lehigh county. A friend of mine does this, he's got an older Export beater kit. I don't know if I could go that...

Do you prefer one head over the other? And are you using the stock resos?

Re: Thinking about downsizing

I don't see why not. The toms actually sound very good, even though they're mystery wood lol. I like the 12"-14" combo. I play this kit quite a bit at home and use it for rehearsals all the time....

Re: Thinking about downsizing

Thanks for staying on course with me Wildbill lol. Yea, I really don't need a snare, I have 5 but I use my old Pearl Sensitone probably 95% of the time. A four piece works just fine for me,...

Re: Thinking about downsizing

Thanks for all the responses. Just to clarify, I'm not really talking about room on stage, but mainly getting the drums in and out of the venue, through crowds and around narrow bars. I played last...

Thinking about downsizing

I've been a busy gigging drummer for the past 20 years in eastern PA. I'm curious to hear from other gigging drummers, wherever you may be, about what kind of rooms you find yourself playing these...
