Re: "Well, that's a Funny Place to Leave Your Stick!"

That's hilarious you stuck your stick in the fridge instead of the eggs :)

When I installed wood floors at my last house, I used drum sticks as spacers between the floor and wall. There are still...

Re: Help me out with a real tough decision

I would go with the custom Gurus from your family trees, because this is just one of the coolest things I've ever heard of.

In my mind the risk is worth it for this unique opportunity, and for...

Re: Lutz (SickRick) visits the UK. Video & pictures.

This is so great - a drummer's paradise. I had no idea that the type of wood really made that big of a difference either. Very excited to see what happens to the apple and pear wood...

Re: Stupid tight marching drum tuning

I went through a phase in the 90's where I got a kevlar head for my snare and tightened the hell out of it. I'm pretty sure I have ear damage because of that.

I was in a rock band btw, and I got...

Re: Darren King

Bringing this thread back from the dead, but I've been hearing their new single "Blood Pressure" on the radio, and I was immediately impressed with the drums. King's rolls are great and very fitting...

Re: What to practice for the most gains?

I'm just jealous that you have the opportunity to play the drums for 12 hrs a day. But it sounds like you're making the best of it!

Re: Female drummers?

It's great to see so many girl drummers on here. My Mom (and Dad) played the drums. I remember her teaching me the rudiments when I was knee-high. In fact, she played the drums in my Dad's band...

Drumming to Red Barchetta

http://youtu.be/Q64fVYzTD1E?hd=1

I really had a lot of fun with this one. I've always liked the song, but overlooked on the drums because of the YYZ-Tom Sawyer-Limelight power trio on Moving...

Re: YYZ-RUSH

Very nice work! I always love to see parents nurturing this type of skill in kids, and she's obviously a natural! Sometimes it's hard to hear her drums over the song, and the camera effects make it...

Re: If you like both cooking and playing drums...you gotta have these!

Lol, cooking and drumming are two of my favorite things, so these are a must.

Re: How long to get your chops back?

Yeah, I noticed my foot dexterity was most lacking after the break. The bass drum just seemed to lag behind, and I'm still having a bit of trouble with heel-toe.

Re: How long to get your chops back?

Nice, that's good to hear you're back in the saddle. And I completely understand with work and a kid, time behind the drums is a precious commodity.

How long to get your chops back?

I started drumming again after a several year hiatus, and found that the mind was willing but the body was weak :)

Besides grip strength, it took about 6 months of regular playing before I can now...

Re: THE DANGERS OF GOING FROM ACOUSTIC TO ELECTRONIC DRUMS

Agree with this 100% My acoustic kit is great when I have no choice, but it really isn't the same.

Re: Tool Vicarious Drums

Good points. My grip probably suffers from never having formal lessons. I was really impressed with Jojo Mayer's video (Secret Weapons for the Modern Drummer) and how he gets into the details of...

Re: YOU MUST WATCH THIS!!! if you ever wondered how bearing edge and type of wood influence the soun

Wow, excellent videos! I would have never guessed how much impact these parameters had on the snare tone.

For me, it's 30-degrees and maple all the way.

I would love to see the same videos...

Re: Gretsch vs Pearl vs Tama

Those are three good choices. I'm sure you'll be happy with any of those sets.

Have you decided what color?

Re: Tool Vicarious Drums

I definitely have a loose grip, as you can see from the stick dropping outtakes :)

I do try to have a loose grip on purpose though, because it just helps me to stay relaxed and keep better rhythm....

Re: Tool Vicarious Drums

Thanks for the compliment! And I agree about Carey, the ending of The Grudge still sends chills down my spine. The man is amazing.

Tool Vicarious Drums

I recorded a cover to one of my favorite songs, Vicarious by Tool. It's always humbling for me to learn a song by someone who I consider a master of the art.

Anyway, I had a great time playing...

Re: Danny Carey

Thanks for the links - these are the most informative videos I've seen about Danny Carey.

I just ordered King Crimson 'Discipline'. Not easy to find!
