Re: Favorite high end drum kit- model and brand?

Tommy_D,

I noticed the same about DW, compared to my PDPs, but interesting read about your Concept Birch. My oval lug PDPs were never speaking to me, regardless of heads or tuning. My Brooklyns...

Re: DW Design Series Snare Hoops

Iíve always found that with any drum maker, if itís a feature, they will state it as so. The Collectors come with True Hoops, the Performance Graduated Hoops and no mention of hoopsbon the Design...

Re: Can Cheap Buckets Sound Good?

I saw him in DC yesterday. I heard him at first and thought, yeah drums are pretty loud to carry this far and I wonder what heís using for stax? Then I saw him and it reminded me of the cheap drums...

Re: Do guitarists generally dislike rests on drums?

Thatís the difference right there. No fun playing with people who keep losing their place. No pocket = no quality = zero fun. Just a whole bunch of pushing and pulling. More of a battle than any...

Re: Do guitarists generally dislike rests on drums?

That's fair, but it just peeves me that it's always our job and us to blame regardless.

Re: Do guitarists generally dislike rests on drums?

This is what kills me most. No one can keep time, but losing time is always our fault. Every time I see a live band and hats or sticks are going, where things should be silent, it pretty much...

Re: Can a very (!) cheap drumset sound ok..?

My wife came home with a little desktop drum set from Hallmark two weeks ago. The box says it makes real drum sounds. Good to know I can make it sound good with real heads and tuning and some...

Re: When did modern drum head become mainstream?

Lots of single ply coated and black dots back then. Also most drums of the time used 1.6mm triple flanged hoops and fewer lugs on snares. Combined they gave you the sound of the vintage drums of...

Re: Boxy Sounding Drums?

There's something to be said about well made drums, but yeah, that's crazy sustain. I don't have sophisticated recording equipment, but reducing the gain on my mic, I can limit it to about 5...

Re: Boxy Sounding Drums?

^^ 8mile/GetAgrippa, these have been my understanding of boxy as well, but I tune my FTs to minimum sustain (according to TuneBot) and they have a ton of punch and at least 15 seconds of sustain...

Boxy Sounding Drums?

I've read how certain heads can make a drum sound boxy, but either I don't know what boxy is, or it means something different to each. I bring this up, because I've read so many say UV1s sound boxy,...

Re: Need some help choosing a snare.

A very good point. Amazing how different things sound in different environments and a familiar baseline makes things that much easier. You just may end up doing what I did. Get your mind all set...

Re: Need some help choosing a snare.

OP, regardless of which you go with, it'll be the wrong one till you can answer the question yourself. There are far too many variables in a "good" snare and we all like different sounds. Best to...

Re: Does Drumming Therapy work?
