Re: 8 lug snare drums. Thoughts?

I tend to prefer 8 just because it’s easier to dial through. Kind of lazy.
I owned bad 10 luggers and excellent 8, And the contrary! I never went through good 6 luggers (cheapo tin can snare...

Re: New Drums Weekend!

The toms aren’t power toms, they’re “in between” standard and power depth. Best of both world ?

Re: Most useful electronic drum sound

I would have a gated snare sound typically 80’s. I’m thinking of snare sound like in Eurithmics “sweet dreams” or some Michael Jackson’s like smooth criminal. I May add some infra bass sound to my...

Re: 2 up with a 12" tom as the smallest

I had and still have 12 13 and 14 and 16 suspended floor toms. It’s not easy to tune, the 14 always seemed a bit unecessary. Once well tuned, the ensemble was fun to play though.

About the...

Re: 2 up with a 12" tom as the smallest

No, you can’t get a Gretsch renown 22 12 13 16, Starclassic BB, Dw Design or Performance, Yamaha RC, Keystone X, Pearl Ref...
With Dw you can’t even get a 13” :-)
The long time standard rock kit is...

Re: Need some help choosing a snare.

I have got a Tama SLP classic Maple : to my eyes and ears, it’s the perfect all around. Classic look, clean sound, easy to tune, solid rimshot. Perfect throw off. Not as powerful as my Maple Signia.

Re: 2 up with a 12" tom as the smallest

22 12 13 16 is classic set up, it’s my favourite. But,... big but,... which brand offers this setup nowadays ???
You can’t find ready made kit like the one I could buy : being standard depth toms...

Re: 2 up with a 12" tom as the smallest

What do you mean by that ? You mean that the shell is smaller in diameter ?

Re: 2 up with a 12" tom as the smallest

It may be true : from the distance, if they're are very deep and with pinstripe, a 12" can sound as a 13" and vice et versa. ;-)
In standard depth and a bit of higher tuning, you get a nice attack...

Re: 2 up with a 12" tom as the smallest

Larry, may I ask the depth you used for your 12 and 13 ?
I've always played 12 13 16; maybe it's common, or stock ; but damn, it can sound good !
I think, the problem were 12 / 13 in power size,...

Re: If you could educate the public about one thing concerning drumming/percussion, what would it be

Yes, you do need to tune a drumkit, and it takes a long time.
Yes, drums aren't as easy as they may seem to be.

A friend of mine (guitarist) said once, in a band : the drums is the instrument...

Re: Premier tom mount and post

former Premier had a wider tube; more than 1"
The one on the picture is recent, it's 1"
the L arms are special, british way : larger than Tama / Mapex but not as large as Gretsch / DW.

I think...

Re: Drum Tuning Bible

About the pure sound wires : that is perfectly true. I bought a secondhand snare, the reinforcement ring and the edge had to be recut, there were 4 gutters cut by those bloody cables. Grosgrain is...

Re: If you had a drum tech, would it change your set-up?

When I do a gig, I play 5 drums, 2 crashes and sometimes china and splash : I think that if I had a drumtech, I would take my extra tom to run 10 12 13 16" and I would always take the big china and...

Judging by the cover (I know it's bad...) , I thought it was a scan from a 1993 magazine :-D

Interesting, the constistancy in the rimclick is something I definately lack ; it's gonna be a good help if I can, through your advice, make it more regular.
I don't have many songs which require...

Re: New Tama Star finish.

I'm the same, don't like much burst and fades, this new colour is really nice though with great wood lines. I'm not sure about bass drum hoops, they seem much darker are they ?

Re: 4-up, 2-down question

The problem I see with this set up is the far right Tom, supposedly 14". I often play 10 12 13, it's easy, but if I add a 14, I don't see how I'd play it and where I'd put the ride cymbal.

4 up...

Re: Worst Badge in the Business

Badges are not that important, but, lugs and badges are part of the design of a drum kit otherwise they're all just round shells with chrome hoops.
