Re: Dave Lombardo: Metal's Greatest Drummer?

Yup, it's documented. I was gonna add that earlier on, and I'm sorry but Dave can't do a lot of what Gene does. Come to think of it, not many people can, he's just unreal...

Re: Jazz Drumming, and its benefits for rock

Damn you are fortunate. I'm kicking myself today because I never got to see them live back then. I'll look for footage on the net. What band did you play with back then?

Re: Jazz Drumming, and its benefits for rock

Dude - Candiria rules! I remember hearing them on WSOU back in the day, and I was floored! I was like: this is the best music I've ever heard!

Fast forward to today, the stuff I like really is...

Re: Blake Richardson + Tomas Haake + Elliot Hoffman

I would suggest Jay Postones from TesseracT. He's quite unlike any prog metal drummer I've heard. Anup Sastry from Skyharbor and Intervals is another monster.

Re: Dave Lombardo: Metal's Greatest Drummer?

No disrespect to Dave or anyone, but, I'm sorry, the answer is no.

He's very good at what he does for Slayer. I'll leave it at that, on a positive note :)

Re: Sonor essential or Mapex Armory

The Armory is soooooo good that I almost gave up my Starclassic B/B's for them. The price point is unreal considering what you are getting.

Re: Rick Allen (Def Leppard)

You bring up a good point about not slamming very good drummers who programmed their parts - Tomas Haake, super-amazing, brilliant drummer from Meshuggah (one of the most important metal bands of our...

Re: Anybody rockin 13-16-20?

I've been toying with the idea of getting a custom kit as 13x13, 16x16 and 20x20, where the 13 tom would be birch and the 16 and 20 would be maple. pair this up with my Musashi snare and it would be...

Re: Using a snare as a floortom

So glad I saw this thread.

I have a 1949 Ludwig WMP 15 x 8 snare that I'm restoring (waiting on my daughter's paint-job), and I was thinking about tunings while simultaneously trying to...

Re: Is it OK to talk about the movie "Whiplash" yet?

Just saw it last night, glad I didn't have to pay for it.

Boring crappy movie until Simmons starts in on him. I laughed out loud the whole time! Really, this would be the worst movie ever without...

Re: The sound guy

Me too! never had a problem and I always used the same mantra as you, basically treat others how you want to be treated.

The best way I've won over sound guys was by coming early and tuning the...

Re: Twisted Sister Drummer dies

I met him at club in Staten Island in the 80's - Billy O's. He got up on stage with the the band playing that night for a song or two - he tore it up! Great drummer and nice guy. RIP A.J. - he was...

Re: WERE DO I START??? *JAZZ DRUMMING*

This is the best advice I've read. period.

I've been down this road - the "hip infection" will usually go away if your roots and "musical" intentions are elsewhere.

Nowadays, the thought...

Re: Peart - would you hang out with him?

No, not at all, quite the opposite. I've read all his books and seen almost all of his interviews.

In his travels, he was simply a human being on a destination, a regular guy. I think you could...

Peart - would you hang out with him?

For those who may or may not have read his books and seen the interviews - would you hang out with him if you had the chance and why, or would you decline?

Curious to hear other people's...

Re: Neil Peart

Nah, that's a bit too general of a statement. You can criticize who you want, why not? It's your right.

But as I made a parallel story specific to what we do: if you're a drummer bashing another...

This may be a bit long

First, I really commend drummer-russ and mlf206 for the recent posts, it shows what real wisdom and a good attitude (in general) is all about.

As for those who have...

Re: Music recording using a chromebook laptop?

Excellent recommendation man! I remember trying to use Jack back in the early 2000's since I refuse to use Windows at home, and it was not friendly back then.

Times have changed and lots of...

Re: Music recording using a chromebook laptop?

You could also go the route of "hackintosh" (keep in mind that Mac OS is a still Linux) - I know a pro engineer who uses it on a large rig running pro-tools. In your case, you could get a decent...

Re: Tama Starclassic B/B pros - Need your help

Wow, nice catch man, thanks a lot! I never thought of it and it's a possibility - maybe it could it be due to the extreme weather changes we have had lately where I live/play? I'll look again.

Thanks for the tips guys, I appreciate it. I guess I'll take the heads off and use a clean cloth to see if there is anything coming from the shells or edges.

Before putting heads on for the first...

Tama Starclassic B/B pros - Need your help

Guys, I have a new Tama B/B that just gigged with it this weekend. The sound is amazing, it's a beauty etc, etc. However there is this orange/yellowish residue that is building up on the resonant...

For a side project that was Symphonic Metal, I had to play live & rehearsals with a click to keep the whole band in sync with pre-recorded Symphony instruments and Operatic backing vocals (click in...
