Re: Band leaders

To Larry's original post I think it can depend. On stage a good front man can be a benefit if he or she can pull it off. Some bands it seems two members may play off each other primarily which is ok...

Re: How do you not hear your bass drum?

lots of good information here. I don't play much double pedal even though I have one. I do notice that when I do I get better feedback through vibrations in my left foot when using my right foot. My...

Re: How do you guys learn songs ?

This is a repost:

I think it is helpful to see some examples moreso than read a book. For me charting is basically the following.

1. Capture the basic song structure: intro, verse, chorus,...

Re: Neurology, learning, and the benefits of meditation for musicians

I have not used meditation but I have used some things that I have learned from being in the adult training business.

For me I learned through online tests that I am a visual learner. For that...

Re: Tips for finding add on drums for kit

Of course it really helps if the finish you are after is something you can replicate. In this case it was probably the easiest to replicate, solid piano black.

Re: Tips for finding add on drums for kit

I spent a year watching for the exact match to my Mapex 2004 M (maple, not birch) drums. I finally chose one with a different finish and different year but same hardware. I doubt many non-drummers...

Re: Thinking about buying a Ludwig Vistalite kit. Thoughts?

Loved my 70's vista lites. Kills me that I don't have them anymore. Great rock drum set in my mind. Those look clean and well cared for.

Re: Structuring Practice for Beginners?

A feware mentioning playing to songs, which is good but it can be counterproductive. Some of the time can be spent just using AOL radio or something and playing to whatever song comes up. That is...

Re: Structuring Practice for Beginners?

Expand the number of rudiements you work on and the amount of time. In the beginning you could really hardly overdue working on rudiments. Stick controll is a great book.

Plus get some variety...

Re: OMG (Sorry I Just Discovered Billy Cobham)

I first encountered Billy in the mid 70s and have been a huge fan since. His speed is crazy. Have to laugh at some of the haters in the comments on the first link. It amazes me how many people cannot...

Re: beginner drummer

As others have said there is no short cut. I also firmly believe that one should gain a foundation of technique before learning more on their own if that is really what they want to do. Bad technique...

Re: Unpopular Drumming Opinion Thread

"same opinion with a lot of metal too."

This is my unpopular opinion. Cannot relate to all of the various sub genres of metal. Blast beats don't impress me musically. Physically maybe. Screaming...

Re: Teachers, do you force Crossed hands on beginners?

There is some truth to your point arky but not entirely. There is Charlie Watts who never plays the hat in unison with the snare. The reason, to get his right hand out of the way. But for me, I...

Re: Does your inner metronome ruin your appreciation of music?

I don't know if this is a good example or not but I am working on Like You Do by REO. After the initial builds Alan Gratzer goes into a groove (bar 10 I think) he likes to use and it seems to start...

I know not all of you play in cover bands but I am curious about a few things for those that are in cover bands.

In your answers it would help if you gave an idea of what sound or genre your band...
