Re: Female on Drumline?

As several already stated, girls in drumline are pretty common. When I was in college we had girls that carried cymbals, played snare, tenors, & bd. Obviously, if she's smaller in size, tenors...

Re: Dark brown Unix snare

The shell on that drum is beautiful. I love the dark finish.

I thought I read on a previous post that you were only planning to use the quick release lugs on toms & bass drums?

Re: Speaking of Staves.. (Sound file inside!)

Francois, are you playing on the sample? Both the drums & the playing sounded really good.

Re: Anothe Unix Bubinga

Wow! The gloss on that finish is incredible. The black fade & black chrome hardware is absolutely stunning.

Re: Care of Inside of Drums

Nope, definately not particle board. From the small amount of wood exposed, I can tell it's ply, probably luan. I'd have to look at the catalog for exactly what Pearl called the coating they used...

Care of Inside of Drums

There have been a lot of informative posts I've found regarding how best to clean and maintain drums. Almost all of these seem to focus on cleaning the hardware and finish (wrap, lacquer, etc.) Is...

Re: Should I give it up for teaching?

First, I'm sorry for your loss. Cancer is a terrible disease.

That guy gives good advice. Now is not the best time to make decisions about what to do with your future. My advice is to continue...

Re: New Supraphonics easily get out of tune

Sorry, it appears I misunderstood what you meant. When I saw the term "oil" I automatically thought of something pretty fluid.

Re: New Supraphonics easily get out of tune

If the problem is the lugs backing off, lubricating them will not solve the problem - it will actually make it worse. We're talking about a small bolt. When bolts are well lubricated, they move...

Re: Pledge Furniture Polish

I'll go along with not using windex on a natural finish. I won't dispute that ammonia is bad for plastic. I have a hard time believing that Windex will harm your wrap. The amount of ammonia in...

Re: Pledge Furniture Polish

Windex should be fine for wrapped drums. That's what I've used on mine with no harmful effects. I don't know about natural finishes, though.

Re: Tuning the reso toms. How i know if im in the ball park ?

I'll third that. Don't strike your bearing edge.

I also don't think it's worth the trouble to find the fundamental pitch of the shell. You'd need a pitch pipe or something so you can match the...

Re: Blah Blah Blah! 10-12-14-16, 10-12-14-16

I have 12-13-16 on my home kit. I don't play it right now because I'm still in the process of cleaning it up after several years of storage. New heads will follow the cleaning.

Re: How I Spent My Saturday!

When I was in high school, we had about 45 people in marching band. It was quite a change when I went to college & had close to 300 people in marching band. Sure, there are limits to what you can...

Re: Questions about Cleaning Vintage Drums

LVDC,

So you use the Meguiar's cleaner wax on the wrap? Or is this just for the hardware? I've been cleaning up my old set & have been using only Windex on the wrap. I've thought about giving...

Re: The latest in my line of prototype stuffs...

I guess my other thought was about the smoothness of the edge. I didn't know how easily it was to smooth the edge on CF.

Yeah, my only first-hand experience with a metal shell is my steel snare...

Re: The latest in my line of prototype stuffs...

That's going to look really nice. Do you add something for a bearing edge? The bare CF edge seems a bit thin; potential for damage to either the edge or the head.

Re: pearl export shell wood

I'm pretty sure if you see an export kit that is "mahogany" it is very likely luan. My export is a wood-fiberglass shell & I can tell by looking at the small amount of exposed wood that it is luan. ...

Re: identify this kit please

Plus one on the Pearl style lugs. Those lugs look identical to my Pearl set. Can't help more than that. Sorry.

What kind of wood is that in the third & fourth pictures? It is absolutely gorgeous looking wood. I hope you post pictures when it's finished.

Tuning Toms

I've been reading through the Drum Tuning Bible, I'm considering buying new heads for my set. It is mentioned in the DTB when tuning an individual drum to always tune up to what you want. This is...
