Re: Being offered a position you don't really want, but could be an experience?

I haven't read any posts past this, but GOOD FOR YOU! I was going to suggest you check it out and if it's cool, go for it!

My motto has always been to try as much stuff as possible, within reason...

Re: Maple kit alternative to yamaha MCA? Jazz/funk

In that case, I'd probably stay away from the Club Customs. They are very "round" and "warm" and often compared to Gretsch.

Re: Maple kit alternative to yamaha MCA? Jazz/funk

I have to second Neal's response. I too have a Yamaha Club Custom kit and it's just fantastic!

There are still new ones on eBay right now. They may be available on eBay for a while, but at some...

Re: Yamaha Drums

I don't get it either and I really can't imagine there's a really good reason for them refusing. The only reason I can think of would be that the serial numbers are consecutive and it was built as a...

Re: Yamaha Drums

Yeah, I've been watching their eBay auctions on their Club Custom sets and add on drums. I have a black wood 22/10/12/14/16 set that I really like and would love a 20" bass drum as another option. ...

Re: Who has to play to a click or backing track live?

I agree with ya totally, but my singer is a lost cause when it comes to that.

Re: Military Band

I was in the Air Force and used to drive a bus for the AF band that's in the Midwest. They told me a bachelors degree is mandatory. As far as them having to do "all kinds of other military stuff",...

Re: Who has to play to a click or backing track live?

In the studio, everyone in my band gets the click. We lock in and never stray, which is awesome. I really like it, to be honest.

Live, I use a metronome on my phone to count songs off (by...

Re: Snare Drum Tuning: The Neil Peart Sound

Hey! Can you name or link to a particular song that has the Peart snare sound you want to achieve? I realize you're saying his snare sound is very distinct, but I'm curious if there's a song that...

Re: Hi-Hats: Tight or loose????

Great question and I look forward to hearing the answers. I go back and forth on this all the time myself and haven't figured out yet what I prefer.

Re: Yamaha Live Custom Oak - opinions?

I've owned my Live Custom set for probably 2 years now. My original alt rock band doesn't gig all that much, but I've probably played 40 gigs on this set in 2 years. I used them again last night...

Re: Rick Allen (Def Leppard)

Glad to hear others say his fills were odd. I felt really incompetent when I didn't get some of those fills right off the bat. LOL

Knowing now that they were programmed really explains why they...

Re: I accept defeat.

That was funny and I agree totally. I too play the "throw 'n go" gigs with several other bands and I have no time or desire to spend alot of time dialing things in. I use coated vintage emperors...

Re: Rick Allen (Def Leppard)

I don't claim to be a really good drummer, but I can "get by" on most songs "fine." With that said, I recently learned "Photograph" to play with some local friends and the whole thing felt totally...

Re: Kickport, does it really make a difference??

I know I already posted this, but I'm with ya. A KickPort can absolutely make a huge difference, but it seems to depend on finding the right recipe of everything (specific drums, heads, dampening,...

Re: Yamaha Drums

Thanks for that summary! That's pretty much what I thought, except I didn't know they are still making the Dave Weckl snares. I assume those are made in the China factory?

I own a set of Live...

Re: Writing with the weak hand?

I broke my right (dominant) hand once and had it in a cast for a month or more. I had to write and do everything with my left hand. I'd never wish that on anyone!

Re: OCD or normal jacking around?

I too tweak the positions of my cymbals and drums fairly often. Usually just at the beginning of a rehearsal or gig, not usually after every song or anything.

I think it just has to do with how...

I have used a Kickport on several sets and here are my findings...

On my Ludwig Classic Maple (16x24), Yamaha Club Custom (15x22), and Yamaha Live Custom kits (14x22), it didn't work as...

Re: New Pearl mcx inside joints uneven?

I think I've read about this before and it's normal. I had an MCX maple snare and it was the same.

I bet a little research will show other conversations about it. Mine didn't look bad at all,...

Re: Yamaha Live Custom Oak - opinions?

I've had a Live Custom kit for around 2 years now. It's the black wood finish, which is killer if you ask me. I have a 22/10/12/14/16 set, but usually use the 22/12/16 for gigs and rehearsals.

Re: Yamaha Drums

I'm really surprised they aren't coming out with new versions of things often. I mean, they only have three pro series at the moment, correct? The PHX, the Live Custom, and the Absolute Hybrid? I...

Re: Hearing protection?

I use these at rehearsals and they work well for reducing volume, but not sounded muffled.

They are a bit uncomfortable, though. They make a...
