Re: Big Decision / Gretsch USA Custom Questions

Thanks! It's vintage Walnut. I'm pretty sure they'll still do it even if it's not listed.

Re: Big Decision / Gretsch USA Custom Questions

Yes, I have 2 actually. One is under the thread '81 Gretsch USA Custom kit thread and the other (a 2008) is on one of the last 3 pages of the Show Your Gretsch thread.

Re: Big Decision / Gretsch USA Custom Questions

The Dark Walnut is more brownish than Walnut. I originally couldn't decide between walnut and burnt orange which is also beautiful and went with vintage Walnut which is slightly less reddish than...

Re: Gretsch Renown & Gretsch USA Snares...

2008 - The lugs are the same ones that were on the 5.5x14 Antique Curly Maple 125th anniversary snare drum.

Re: DW Jazz Kit

I'll bet that the DW artists who use the Jazz kits out in public and in magazine ads have Gretsch kits in their house or their studios.

Re: Todd Sucherman here!

Hi Todd, I just recently (finally) got your Methods and Mechanics DVD and have to say it's the best one I've seen in a long time. Any plans to do another in the future, because if so, I'll be...

Re: Sonor Really the Cat's Meow?

I would say - and this is just my opinion - that Sonor's high end stuff is definitely in the top 3 along with Gretsch USA and Yamaha's high end stuff.

Re: Problem tightening the lugs + Is my Supraphonic COB?

One way to tell is by the weight of the shell. Their brass shells weigh noticably more than the aluminum. I came across a website while trying to figure out the same thing and some guy actually...

Re: Looking to get a snare for modern rock.

Some great sounding snares commonly used in the studio for hard rock are cast bronze or bell brass, solid wood or aluminum shell snares such as the Noble & Cooley's, and Black Beauty and Supras. ...

Re: Cleaning a cast bronze shell

I used the Comet and Scotch-brite pad and it left a whitish residue even after rinsing it forever, so then I scrubbed it with Dawn soap and the pad twice and rinsed it while scrubbing and rinsed...

Cleaning a cast bronze shell

I just picked up a 10 year old DW cast bronze snare drum that needs a good cleaning and was wondering how to go about cleaning the actual shell. I have Flitz polish which works great for chrome, but...

Re: Snare Buzz when using toms

Try tuning the snare to a pitch that is in between two of the toms.

Re: Question for Gretsch drummers

The USA's started out with the orange and white tags, then went to grey tags, then to red white and blue, and now back to the grey ones. They have a printed serial # and a hand written model #. As...

Re: Brass or Bronze?

They're both pretty versatile, but brass is brighter and ringier to my ears. I prefer bronze because of its darker tone and woodier overall sound. You could probably get a Pearl sensitone bronze...

Re: What makes a Quality drum?

The end all for me would have to be bearing edges - you'll never see a low quality drum with good ones, or a high quality drum with bad ones.

Re: Suspension mount vs. shell mount...shell mount wins!

I always though it was better not to have the toms mounted off of the bass drum because of the pressure it putson the bass drum shell, although I've never really noticed a difference soundwise. I...

Re: New Titanium Snares?

I wonder if these will be as expensive as the Dunnet Ti's or the Tama Warlord Titan. If not, I may have to check 'em out.. They look killer.

Re: Who still puts a pillow/blanket in the bass drum?
