Re: What to practice for the most gains?

I guess I may be splitting hairs, here, but I don't think the OP was going to spend all his time on licks. I don't know what a proper amount of time is for him. I think I do for me.
I remember my...

Re: What to practice for the most gains?

What would you determine to be the alphabet in drumming then? The down stroke and upstroke?

Flashcards have their purpose. They are a beginning, not and end.

Re: What to practice for the most gains?

While I believe learning rudiments is exactly this, I believe that learning licks lets the drummer put those rudiments in a sequence, pre-determined, pre-orchastrated and into muscle memory so as to...

Re: What to practice for the most gains?

While I understand the intellectual leanings of this theory I disagree with it fundamentally. Just because one learns the alphabet does not learn one how to read. Learning licks is like learning a...

Re: Poor and Insulting Service at LI Drum Center

A good businessman would never have let this happen. In this business climate he cannot afford to lose even 1 customer like this. He does not lose just this 1, he loses anyone that finds this...

Re: Poor and Insulting Service at LI Drum Center

I think he got it just fine. You're the one who does not get it.
I deal with people like you all to often. Somehow, someone has ruined your life and the only way to make it up to you is to give you...

Re: Top 5 Fav Drummers (inspirational to your style)

I have a school friend, Marc Bonilla, who plays with Danny and CTA. Marc also plays and tours with Keith Emerson. There are more vids on Marc's webspage.

Re: Yo to the Pro's

Like KIS and many here I am an 'old fart', My only regret, at my age, is that I did not and was not inspired to put in the time/practice I could have at a much younger age. Largely because of...

Re: Playing using your lower back

Really the best advise.

Anyone here who has not seen you play cannot give advice. It would be like taking your car in for service and the mechanic advising you need a wheel alignment, you call...

Re: Popularity, quality and vibe

Well, there can't be loads of them because then they would not be 'drum gods'. 'Drum God' is generally reserved for those that are iconic. And if you revere and idolize them you talk about them...

Re: Popularity, quality and vibe

What might be the demographics of Rolling Stone?
The average age of these 20 drummers is 56.75 if they were all still living.
The oldest being 71 and the youngest 43. Ringo is 70

Are there no...

Re: A love/disdain for Steely Dan?

There are 2 ( yes 2!) Steely Dan cover bands that I know of here in the part of No. Calif. where I live. They are: Steelin Dan and Steely Scam. Both bands play often and draw crowds. They are...

Re: Accustomisation

I agree. For me it is a degree of relationship. With tom's tuned hi and snare cranked the bass being tune very low and boomy just dose not fit. The orchestration of sound ( tuning) is so vital for...

Re: Accustomisation

I am very curious as to why you would purchase an instrument that you hated the sound of. It has been my experience that if i loved the sound to begin with then it sounded good no matter where I...

Re: What annoys you on peoples drum sets?

Like you, I am a left handed drummer. I get annoyed when I can't sit in on a right handed kit.
My annoyance is with me, though, not with the righty or his kit.

Re: What annoys you on peoples drum sets?

This is my favorite answer! It is the drumming that matters. If the drumming is found wanting it is, generally, about the drummer and not the drums.
