Musicians Friend has a bunch of concert snares. You may not be able to have them shipped to England but it makes a nice catalog for viewing.

I would use some wipe on interior poly and feather it out in very thin coats. I can't tell b ut it looks to be a satin finish.

see if the Local Philharmonic has a website and send them a msesage thru to the percussionist and see what they play and where they bought the snares.

That is a fine piece. I have always used a second stick, tip through the hole, and one to smack with. I'm sure the felt keeps it from muting.

Very old thread, but don't most if not all touring musicians have guitar techs and drum techs that do this for them? Not that uncommon.

Just looking, but you may want to use the bass drum legs to get the front hoop off of the floor about a half inch. I'm afraid what the constant pounding effect will have on the hoop.

But when the snares are disengaged the noise is gone. Are all of the snares parallel when engaged. One side no tighter than...
