thanks all! maybe DW isnt cliche, but i want a different brand, although, i LOVE DW drums! I soon want to have an endorsement, and i want to be slightly "unique" which is why i was thinking mapex...

thankls everyone for the responses...I suppose the price went into the rest of the drums. overall, they are a really nice quality...lugs hardware and laminent finish etc. now its 200 dollars new, but...

have a 1996 CB SP series 5 piece, all wood shells, even snare. online the latest cb sp advertises 9-ply mahogany. Im not sure if the nicer 96' lines had this wood or not though. It smells like...
