Re: LM402 Lust

I own quite a few snares, including the Ludwig's LB417 and LK552, and two LM402s. The LM402 was my first good snare and remains my favorite snare. It has the best pop, crack, tone, detail, etc.,...

Re: Your ideal drummer/the drummer you aspire to be

Glenn Kotche of Wilco. He is the most fluid and inventive drummer that I watch, who is working today. I like who I am behind the kit, but it would be so freeing to be able to do what he does. ...

Re: Musical artists who's death saddened you.

Elliot Smith. His music was beautiful and sad ... his death was deathly sad. Such a horrible end for someone you really liked.

Re: Vistalite Re-Issue Split at seam. Please help

No bueno. I would definitely be calling the manufacturer or the dealer if you bought it new.

Re: Guru Review

This is almost a dissertation. Would love to hit that floor tom for 10 minutes myself.

Re: Old Premier APK's sound as good as anything

I still have mine from 1986. Mine say Premier Royale but the front head said APK. They are painted black on the inside. I keep mine as a beater kit, and I gig them sometimes, when I'm playing in a...

Re: Are Ludwig Supraphonics really that good a snare

That is some kind of reverse psychic prediction capability. I too am absolutely 100% certain that 9 of 10 would pick the Ludwig without zero uncertainty. Without a doubt ...

Re: Are Ludwig Supraphonics really that good a snare

Yes, I was referring to the guy who misspelled "Budweiser".

Re: Are Ludwig Supraphonics really that good a snare

Am I wrong to take offense to this post ? Which snare drum one uses does not dictate what they sound like. The drummer is mainly responsible for that. Supra's are great snares, loaded with...

Re: Scored a Bronze Supra LB552

That's exactly what I use. Coated Ambassador w/ 16-strand PureSound Concert Snares. Very juicy.

Re: Scored a Bronze Supra LB552

Just wanted to update on my post here. Wasn't sure if I was loving the bronze Supra as much as my BB or LM402. I had them all tuned up pretty much the same. The bronze just didn't seem to have as...

Re: DWPS ordered!

I haven't played many DWs but I did play these in a store and they sound great. Very punchy, full, and musical. I think the stock heads play a part, very warm.

Re: Mounting a 14" floor tom

Do you mean a rack tom that hovers over the bass drum, or off to the side like a floor tom ? For the former, snare stand only, for the latter, usually can mount to a cymbal stand.

Re: Help! Acrylic Drums

I recently got an acrylic kit for live gigs. I've never recorded them, but my impression is people consider them more of a live/stage thing. Personally, I think they sound really good and I imagine...

Re: I'm fed up

I agree on two points. Not enough individuality in modern mainstream drum lines. And - Premier made some awfully classy looking drum kits. The tubes lugs shown are reminiscent of the Signia line...

Re: Should I get a Supra?

Yet you are still thinking about a Supra. Well, I'm of the mind that the LM402 is the only snare one really needs. I've never owned a 5" deep snare, but I imagine the LM402 would rock harder than...

Re: Should I get a Supra?

How do you like your aluminum Sensitone compared to the other metal snares you own ? I have several metal snares, but my Supra is the best for all types of music. I have also played the 5x14...

Re: Recording Custom - Gauger RIMS

Yes it's a simple mod. I did it. I think I bought some rubber washers to eliminate metal on metal contact.

Re: A Ludwig question

Slightly off topic : How do you like those 70s 3-ply Ludwigs ? I played someone else's similar-era Ludwigs at a show the other night, and they freakin' rocked. Are the old Ludwigs similar in...

Re: I think I'm done with one up - two down

1-up-2-down can be cool, but 2-up-1-down is way better IMO. I like the swing position of the ride in a 1-up config, but I get alot of mileage out of my 2nd rack tom, plus, you don't have that "hole"...

Re: Supraphonic and P33 but plate problem

Best bet is to just buy a P32 replacement part, readily available new on eBay for less than $10. I've gigged my P32-equipped Supra for years, and never needed a screwdriver.
