Re: Gretsch Brooklyn COB or Pearl SE?

I have a Gretsch USA 5x14 that i love. Recently, I bought a Yamaha aluminum. It was a killer deal for $149. Haven't gigged with it, yet.

Re: Gretsch Brooklyn COB or Pearl SE?

It was more of an experiment, really. I want to try something new. If I lik what I get, I'd sell the BOB. If not, I'd sell the Gretsch or Pearl. Mike, I've read your comments on the Pearl. Sounds...

Re: Gretsch Brooklyn COB or Pearl SE?

I'm moving away from the Gretsch now. I don't like the throw off and butt plate design. Impractical.

Re: Gretsch Brooklyn COB or Pearl SE?

I hear ya. I need to hear opinions. I'm not sure it's an upgrade or not. I like to try new things. That's one of my motivations.

Re: Gretsch Brooklyn COB or Pearl SE?

FYI: The Pearl is a nickel over brass, not the premium brass with the patina finish.

Re: Gretsch Brooklyn COB or Pearl SE?

$250 for the Gretsch. The Pearl is at $300. I'm trying to get the price down.

I've been using a Pork Pie BOB. It has been a great drum for me. Just looking to upgrade if i can get a good value.

Gretsch Brooklyn COB or Pearl SE?

I'm buying a brass snare. 6.5x14. I have good deals lined up for the Gretsch Brooklyn COB and the Pearl SE brass. I like the features on both of them. I've read good things about both of them here....

Re: Heuer Drums

I wonder if he'll use some other kits, too. I'll be surprised if he uses the H euers exclusively. But in the end, who cares? It's just gear, man. I'm sure the Heuers are great. They're being used for...

Re: Heuer Drums

I'm not sure how that will all work. He may just use what he wants, when he wants, but have the Heuer as his main kit.

Heuer Drums

Chris Heuer is making new kits for some guy named Vinnie. Vinnie has a link on his website now, replacing the Ludwig link. This was foreshadowed on another board.

Re: Vinnie Colaiuta

As it was foreshadowed on another board, Vinnie is going with a custom kit from Heuer Drums. He has a link to Chris Here's page on his website now. Word is he will use some C raviotto snares as well.

Yamaha's new stuff

I've seen a couple of teaser videos from Yamaha Drums. They mention "Evolution." I'm guessing that will be the name of one of their new drum lines. Does anybody have any info? Jim Haler, paging Jim...

Re: Yamaha MCAN issue

An update: I've made no decisions yet. OK. I'm gonna drink some more and let the beer decide.

Re: Yamaha MCAN issue

I don't believe you can get the Nouveau lugs anymore. The hook lugs are the updated, sturdier version of those.

Re: Yamaha MCAN issue

This is one of the reasons I'm thinking about doing it. I won't have this chance after June.

Yamaha MCAN issue

I have a Yamaha MCAN blue sparkle kit. I bought it used without the snare drum. Since Yamaha is discontinuing the line, I'm thinking of ordering the snare before the June 28 deadline.

The reason...

Re: The future of Yamaha Drums

Is anyone really using the RCs anymore? Such a great drum set. I hate to see them go.

The future of Yamaha Drums

After the big announcement that Yamaha Drums, as we know them, is going away for good. Say goodbye to the Absolutes, RCs, etc. Are the RCs really going away forever? I hope not. OK. Enough...

Re: Yamaha Oak Custom for jazz?

Exactly, Wild Bill. I wasn't looking for a lecture from Bo. Ha.

The sizes are 15x18 kick, 8x10, 9x12, 14x14 toms. No snare drum.

Re: Yamaha Oak Custom for jazz?

I played an Oak Custom kit at a festival, too. Kinda funny. Except witness in California. How would you compare the Oak bass drum to a maple or birch bass drum?
