Re: Some Pearl Vision Porn ;)

When ever I see maroon wrapped drums it puts the image of a CB-700 kit in my head:

Re: Pete Ray Biggin drum set

You have any photos of the kit that we can look at, or are you expecting us to do all the work?

Re: Yamaha Recording Customs - Help!!

14x24 bass drum will be awesome. For $600 I would buy the kit and re-finish it. Its probably a players kit, so it will have lots of scratches, probably some dinged up bearing edges, and some...

Re: Some Pearl Vision Porn ;)

Wow, Pinstripes with Emperors for reso's. Those must sound tubby. Are you sure that will sound good in a live environment?

And to agree with others, those are pretty f'n ugly. The maroon...

Re: Anyone else notice the cost of sticks getting ridiculous

Guitar Center price matches. If you see the sticks for $7 on amazon, just show them on your phone and they will match it. I got some Hosa splitter cables from GC that were listed as $10 each for...

Re: Tuning a Gretsch tom

There has been talk about head thickness and how it can vary across the big sheet of mylar before it is cut to the sizes used for the head. Its somewhere in the head sub-forum. However, the...

Re: Tuning a Gretsch tom

Yes, buy a tune bot. I gave in and purchased one. I find my drums sound better with the tune bot than when I tuned by ear. It also has handy de-tuning methods to control resonance while keeping...

Re: Starclassic maple or DW collectors

I feel the whole point of buying a Collectors set is to go through the process of having it "custom" made for you. Choosing the finish ply, the color, the shell construction, the sizes, the hardware...

Re: Mid-range drums stock heads comparision and other features

Well, the staff could become more knowlegable on the products because they are selling less brands and they have the equipment right there to play and hear. They actually become sales people who...

Re: Mid-range drums stock heads comparision and other features

Not to flip your words around, but isnt that how your shop works? Display models of the lines you offer in the display room available for people to play, but ultimately not for sale. They have to...

Re: Mid-range drums stock heads comparision and other features

There will always be a store front for music stores. Even if they have a huge internet presence and 90% of their sales are from the internet. How we see them now is probably not what they will look...

Re: Even Jo Jo Drops A Stick Now & Then-Nerve Live

So, I'm supposed to watch a 37 minute video looking for Jojo to drop a stick somewhere in there?

Re: Mid-range drums stock heads comparision and other features

I just purchased all new heads for my 7 piece Catalina kit (batter and reso) for ~$175. Thats for the whole kit (minus the bass drum reso). So new heads is not a crazy expense.

I think its...

Drill them and put the air suspension feet on the legs.

A bit of a lateral move in this drum swap, but okay...

As for heads, don't bother trying to compare the different Asian made options. They all suck. Buy the USA made versions and be happy.

Re: Advice on new kit

Keystones are a great value. The oak supposedly has a bit more volume/projection over maple. C&C kits are nice, I suppose. Nothing about their drums has really stood out to me, though. They are...

Re: Finally!!

Regarding the width on that snare bed, it just gives you more options for snares. That big, wide bed will work with snare wires as wide at 40+ strands. Its not atypical to see a bed that wide.

Re: Finally!!

How important is even tuning across the batter? Kinda important. Across the reso, on a snare, not as important. The snare bed should have no impact on the tuning of the batter head. That head and...

Re: Finally!!

The snare bed would be easily visible at the area where the strainer and butt plates are located. It should be ~1/8" deep and span across the entire area between the two flanking lugs and possibly a...

Re: I got a Sleishman

Nice kit. I wouldn't consider the re-paint unless its bothers you so much you cant sleep at night. In the mean time just rotate the shell in its cradle so the scratch is hidden from view.

Re: Finally!!

Yeah, the short riser works great. No rocking, no flex. The drums are stable without any bounce or wobble. Its solid.

Just make sure you glue the styrofoam to the concave side of the sheet of...
