Thanks for sharing, Bill Cobham has always been one of my favorite drummers.

Re: Do Youtube Drum Covers Influence What/How You Play?

I get depressed watching some of these younger cats just killin' it!

But what is a big difference is that all of their videos are of them playing in their garage. All my videos are me playing on...

Re: The foot is the key to groove

Actually it's the vocal or melody line. If you can make that float then you've got the groove. Everything else falls into place.

Re: No love for 20" bassdrums?

I use my 17x20 more than I use my 22.

Re: 2 X 4 Snare project

I have one of these. It's a spruce drum and it's pretty awesome. I like using it on quieter gigs because it's just so airy sounding.

Re: DrumMaker.com/Andy Foote - Experience in dealing with them??

At one time they were really reputable but I've heard a lot of horror stories about dealings with them. It's a drag too, because I'm always about giving someone the benefit of the doubt.

Re: Who "invented" the rock beat?

Charles Connor did. Little Richard took him to the train station and said "I want my music to have that feel" of the train clacking down the tracks.I had the absolute pleasure of interviewing him a...

Chris Paprota

This kid out of Forked River, NJ has been blowing my mind now for a couple of years. I'm trying to get him a gig with a touring band right now, someone who could use his skill level. Anyhow, check...

Re: Drum Etiquette at Open Jams

It's like a golf course. You show up with your clubs (sticks) and play what's there. Maybe raise the snare or move the hats over, get that to your liking but as far as any major tweaks, not a good...

Re: Discouraging & deterring theft on gigs

Acidline303 is spot-on. I too am the old guy screaming at younger bands "TAKE THOSE GEAR STICKERS OFF THE TRAILER NOW" and they're all like "what's his problem?"

When one gets gear stolen and...

Re: Discouraging & deterring theft on gigs

Don't leave your stuff, ever. Assume that it will be stolen. When you're loading out, have someone watch your gear and make sure they know *you* are the only one loading out. I've seen people's stuff...

Re: How to handle this situation

Classic book indeed, but remember this- any "self help" book written after about 1920 was "Personality-based", and everything prior to that was "Character based". Always maintain an anchor on your...

Re: How to handle this situation

He's paying you ls because you'll accept less. If you want to get paid more then tell him "this is what I expect as a minimum".

This is a lazy person who is set in their ways. He'll probably...

Re: Drummer quiz: What kind of drummer are you?

According to this chart it makes inference that perhaps I should join a plumber's union.

Re: Question for cruise ship drummers about practice on board

When I was on a cruise ship in Alaska I'd stay up late and hit the drums about 3:30am when everyone was asleep and the passengers wouldn't be around. Our lounge was on the bow of the boat and the...

Re: Metronome

Audacity has a built in click generator so you'd need to just create the tempo maps on the fly then export the entire thing as an mp3.

Re: The being fired or quitting thread

If there's someone who wears their political leanings on their sleeve so much that it defines who they are, I generally don't work with that person. There was a guy here in my town who was a hardcore...

Re: Metronome

You need a tempo map. I'd look at getting Audacity (free) and creating one as per your needs.

Re: Vinnie Colaiuta back with Yamaha?

Re: The being fired or quitting thread

I'm allergic to racists and bigots. That being said I've finished the gig and told the person to "lose my #". I've also walked off a stage, packed my gear and gone home due to an abusive, high...

Re: 22x20 kick playability

You'll find a difference in feel more with the diameter of the drum than of the depth. A 24" drum will feel far different than a 22". The thing is to play them, see what *you* like.

Re: 22x20 kick playability

I think anything deeper than 18" is just overkill. Sonically it may seem that it's bigger sounding but in actuality it's just not that much of a difference. If you want that dark & wet "oof" then use...

Re: Band members with bad timing

Your timing isn't getting worse, it's getting better because you're more aware of what's going on. Wanna get good solid time? Play with a shitty blues band. Keeping that together is like herding...

Re: Possibly my first serious thread. Sexism.

I think it has something to do with the fact that for so long drumming was about 99.99% male oriented. When I was raised in the 70's and 80's there was about ONE female drummer and her name was Karen...
