Re: $50 yard sale score

That color doesn't suck nearly as much as I imagined, but I'd still probably repaint. Still, definitely worth the $50. Have fun!

Re: Identify This Ludwig Kit

When I ordered my Ludwig Classic Maples you could choose options for lugs, finishes, hardware, etc, and that included hoops. Either someone wanted them plain, or they replaced them with aftermarket...

Re: Shallow 18" Kick

Great question, because if it is a SuperKick I'm not at all surprised the tone is dead.

A PS3 or Evans equivalent with no other muffling works best for me on my 14X18 Tama.

Re: A couple of things I'm not digging from Ludwig

Oh yes, that's right, the Elite mount.

Luckily I've had no trouble with the wing screws.

Re: A couple of things I'm not digging from Ludwig

Hmmm, the floor tom leg mounts on my Classic Maples are neither restricted to 9mm nor are they as big as the Atlas. Do they not offer that any more? It seems perfect to me, and fits in a case. Let me...

Re: Is it me or Peart's HH hit's the bottom of Tom

Just had enough of it for a while, Johnny. Baby steps towards unplugging. :)

Re: Is it me or Peart's HH hit's the bottom of Tom

OK, I found the video, or a similar one, elsewhere. No, it isn't hitting the toms. The tom movement you see is because of the platform he uses, with the stands that screw into the base rather than...

I'm not on FB any more. Any chance of a non-facebook vid?

Re: Did Derrick Pope pass away?

That's sad to hear. Did you know him? I haven't seen that info posted anywhere. I enjoyed talking with him on here.

Re: Tom reso head for "dead" sound

Besides muffling and removing, try tightening the reso head, a LOT. I worked as a tech for a drummer in the 80's who showed me this trick. He used Pinstripes on the batter side, tuned quite low, and...

Re: St Anger snare, or lid of a trash can?

Good on you, man. That would be great!

Plus, you can be thankful the drop bears hate the cold. :)

Re: Who has to play to a click or backing track live?

I disagree with this. Once you get used to playing with a click, it just fades into the background. It's just a reference point, and it doesn't interfere with listening to other musicians at all.

Re: St Anger snare, or lid of a trash can?

Ah. It's a Canuck thing. Now there's an observation. lol (JK! Seriously. I'm just kidding. I love Canada, eh?)

Re: St Anger snare, or lid of a trash can?

I just noticed, every one of your threads links to your YouTube channel, and every one of your posts is on your own threads.

Just an observation.

Re: Are Drum Heads from factory that bad?

Yes, and many beginners couldn't tell a good head from a bad head.

Re: Are Drum Heads from factory that bad?

I've heard some really terrible ones, like the super cheap clear heads that came on my old Mapex kit (about 2004). My Ludwig Classic Maples came with Ludwig coated heads, which sounded just fine. At...

Re: Anyone Need an Acrolite??

Blue and Olive badge. And while I'm not any kind of expert, I'd guess 70's. It's that 70's style anodized finish. It's not of the Blackrolite era.

Re: Anyone Need an Acrolite??

Oh, funny. I hadn't even thought of that. I've been here 11 years and haven't sold a thing, lol. I did buy a snare drum from Gruntersdad.

I guess people can think what they want.

Re: Where Do You Position Your Beater

Odd man out here, but I choose beater height based on the feel. Where it hits is of secondary importance to me. I use the same beater height on my 24" bass drum and my 18" bass drum. They both sound...

Anyone Need an Acrolite??

I happened to see an Acrolite in the local pawn shop for a good price - $129.99. This includes the Ludwig Flying Saucer hard case.

I don't need one, because I've got one exactly like it, but if...

Re: Can someone explain this Joe Morello technique to me?

Not that I'm aware of, but I honestly don't know. I just like Morello's sound, phrasing, and presentation. I know it isn't an apples to apples comparison.
