Re: Which kit should I get?

For the most part, I'm not a fan of Sabian cymbals as compared to Zildjian. But I've never tried Paiste, as no one around here uses them, oddly enough. I know I've seen Dave Grohl use Paiste back in...

Re: Which kit should I get?

Thanks for all the input. I've been looking around for quite a while now, and I've tried a few kits. I've tried the Catalina Club Rock and it sounds great for my purposes. Other kits I've tried...

Which kit should I get?

I'm a drummer who's got a real crappy kit. It's a simple 5 piece Westbury Kit with Solar by Sabian Hats and Crash/Ride a Zildjian ZBT Crash, an LP Timbale Cowbell and a Meinl Hi-Hat Tambourine. I've...

Does this sound like a good kit to go for?

I have a bit of money saved up, and I am planning on going for an intermediate level kit. I've had a "Westbury" kit for a year and a half now, and it just isn't doing it for me. I play mostly hard...

Re: Snare Questions

I listened to the 8x14 in a low, medium and high tuning. I wasn't a fan of it as much as I was with the 6.5 and the 5. So I'm just gonna stick with the 5x14, with everything stock. Sounds great to...

Re: Snare drums - Favourite and recommend!

I've bought a guitar from there before, so it should be fine. I haven't bought any drum equipment from them though, but I plan on it soon.

Snare Questions

I think I may get a Ludwig Black Magic snare along with my new kit (I'm sure you've seen the kit thread by now). I love the sound of the drum, especially the sound it makes at a lower tuning....

Ludwig Black Magic's are great. $281 on zZounds.

Re: Which kit?

Thanks for all the help, guys. I'm gonna go with the Gretsch. One question though; will a lightweight single-braced boom straight stand hold the weight of a 16" medium-thin crash and 2 maple toms?

Re: Which kit?

I guess I see your point there. But the thing is, I get different answers from different people (which I would expect) and I was kinda hoping for a more straightforward answer. Like if everyone...

Re: Which kit?

imo, I don't think the Pearl Tom mounts are that good. I find them hard to adjust; I've had expierience with them, I like the ball and L shaped tom holders much better. At the gig I mentioned with...

Re: Which kit?

I was planning on getting used hardware anyway; with me, I'm fine as long as the hardware is sturdy and works. I don't need heavy double braced hardware. I like Yamaha hardware better than Gibraltar,...

Re: Which kit?

Personally, I'd much rather get my own kit. I won't be gigging the kit too often, in fact, I may never gig the kit. But I just find my sisters kit is hopeless. I can't set up the toms in a position...

Re: Which kit?

Good. I guess my new set of cymbals will consist of a Sabian AAX 21" Raw Bell Dry Ride, Sabian AAX 16" Xplosion Crash, and Sabian B8 Hi-Hats...but soon after, maybe 6 months or so, Sabian AAX 13"...

Re: Which kit?

I guess I could, but the B8's are extremely clangy compaired to a higher end cymbal. If it was only temporary, I guess.

The raw bell dry rides are probably the best choice for me. What I meant...

Re: Which kit?

I can't get B8 hats and pro level everything else, cause I know I'll end up hating my hats. lol. So I guess I'll just start out with simple hardware pack, and used pro level cymbals (hats, crash and...

Re: Which kit?

Oh, there's nothing that can be done to my sisters kit. I was just tuning the snare, just to see how well I could tune, and through the reso head, I could see mold between the head and the edge of...

Re: Which kit?

I can't find a place where the Meridians are in the price range of the rest of the kits I'm looking at. Zzounds asks for a higher price than, say, Sonor Force 3002, or Gretsch Catalina Maple, as does...

Re: Which kit?

I'm undecided about kits again. lol. I've notice Zzounds sells Sonor kits for less than half the list price. I've heard some very good things about Sonor, and 2 of my favorite drummers uses them;...

Re: I'm wrong handed and wrong footed, should I care?

Shawn Drover from Megadeth plays open handed. I don't like the look of it, especially since his ride is over by his hi hats, but if he's comfortable with it, fine by me. Just doesn't look that good...

Re: Barefoot? Or with Shoes? how do you play?

I wear shoes. I've never played barefoot, and I've tried with socks, but never really liked it.

Re: Which kit?

OHHH. lol Yeah, I'm not a fan of direct drive pedals; I've used Axis longboards (which have direct drive) and they weren't all that comfortable to me. I'm better off with dual chain drive.

And...

Re: Which kit?

I was thining about getting a Wuhan for the china anyway, I love the sound of them. As for hardware, I find double-braced hardware is a pain to set up, so I'd be better off with single-braced anyway....

Which kit?

I'm looking into buying my first kit. I am a multi-instrumentalist. I am not a beginner drummer, in fact, I have gigged my drumming skills before with intermediate songs. I usually just use kits of 2...
