Re: Can you read sheet music?

As someone who learned to recite the Iliad via the oral tradition, I don't find writing to be very useful. It's difficult to read, and I have never been able to make the connection between the...

Re: But What To Wear?

One was thinking of a shirt in one of the colours of the strides, possibly with something drum/music related or mildly offensive.

Initially I had been inclined towards an extreme paisley shirt,...

Re: But What To Wear?

Thanks to all for their insights, opinions and thoughts.

Thanks also to Larry for his contributions. :)

Many have suggested music-related T-shirts and jeans. Trouble is, that's what I'd wear...

Re: MuseScore

I've used it, and like it.

I especially like the ability to have it 'play back' what I've written or transcribed.

Re: But What To Wear?

Re: But What To Wear?

I suspect that judgement would depend very much on the type of pub that he walked into.

Re: My Kit Build Begins!

I can't help but notice that you have parked an English motor vehicle on a carpet/rug.

That's all well and good but someday you will want to fill it with oil.

When that day comes, I suggest you...

Re: But What To Wear?

That's the default, but increasingly I'm thinking the band members should be distinguishable from audience, even when they aren't playing their instruments.

But What To Wear?

Madge has her collection of sparkly frocks and stilettoes...stilettos...stiletti...SHOES, but what of the rest of us? I play in a classic rock cover band, we're just starting to pick up gigs and I...

Re: Found A Guitarist!

Compositions aren't an issue, we're a covers band. Having 2 lead players in the band is overkill. Having a roster of lead players just adds complication.

Revenue sharing is not a concern, mostly...

Found A Guitarist!

...and he wasn't even behind the couch.

My garage band has been emerging from the garage and into blinding light of parties.

At the same time, our (now previous) lead guitarist announced that...

Re: Acoustic Drums VS Electronic Drum Kits

There is an inexpensive middle ground:

Hunt down a Pearl Rhythm Traveller. A small, light, inexpensive and very portable drum kit which is supplied with a set of mesh heads for near silent...

Re: I got the gig!

Wonderful news Madge.

Do you know that there are people who, having learnt to drum, feel that they may give it up.

I know....weird, huh?

Love and rhythmic adoration...

Re: Tricks for faster set up

Re: How hard is it to start playing well?

On playing: The short answer is practice.

I've been playing a little over two years, and regular astound myself with what I've learnt in that time. (Not claiming great virtuosity, just the...

Re: When to do Free Gigs and Paid Gigs

But isn't that igzackerly what a band that plays for free, for exposure, is doing?

A bar is just about breaking even. A band is looking for a gig.

"OK," says the barman, "you guys can play for...

Re: When to do Free Gigs and Paid Gigs

Without the emotive language, references to George Harrison songs and sporting prowess, how exactly do you feel that this is different to a band trying playing gigs for free to establish a...

Re: Good kits for under $1000???

This is a genuine question, not smartassery...

Could you not repair those edges by using a wood filler and careful sanding?

Re: Good kits for under $1000???
