Re: Can you read sheet music?

Hmmm...is it "not useful" because you "find it difficult"? You may well be in a situation where it isn't always useful. But, if you "find it difficult" and yet can function as a player in a band, I'd...

^This. Give as good as you get, but always with a smile.

That said, I always make sure I have a pencil on a gig so I can berate the other guys for not being real musicians when the inevitable...

Re: Can you read sheet music?

I'm the same. My aural memory isn't great. Or at least that's my perception of it. Perhaps I learned to rely on notation too early and didn't develop it or maybe I'm not wired that way. I don't know,...

Re: Pain in lower back and root of legs

Sounds eerily like sciatica. Look up the various exercises/stretches, etc. that are commonly used to relieve sciatica pain and try them and see if they help.

If you want specific commentary on...

Re: What's your latest purchase?

Supra!

I picked up a player's 402 awhile back myself. I used to always have one in my arsenal but made the choice to sell my last one for reasons I now don't fathom.

It's like a big can of...

Re: What's your latest purchase?

Shure SE215 IEMs. I'm in between pairs of higher-end IEMs due to an accident but needed something for some upcoming work so I shelled out £80 for a set of these. So far, I'm really impressed. At the...

Re: Can you read sheet music?

I wouldn't have a playing career if I didn't.

You still need to practice skill but reading helps in that it opens up access to all the available study material and written repertoire. I find...

Re: You won't believe what Andy did

I only topped-and-tailed the thread but have learned that Andy went home with a lady he met on a plane and filed down Larry's wood to compensate for shrinkage before Larry jammed it in Philly.

Re: Does independence just click one day?

An interesting -- and not rhetorical -- question is "why would anyone want to?"

Re: Does independence just click one day?

My first question would be, "what was he doing up until that day?"

I suspect the answer is in your final sentence.

Re: If I would just buy one book on coordination...

I like Syncopation and I also like 4-Way Coordination by Dahlgren and Fine for the whole melodic/linear thing. I also like Chaffee's Time Functioning Patterns for rock/funk coordination. The Fatback...

Re: Anybody rockin 13-16-20?

Re: Anybody rockin 13-16-20?
