Re: Supralite, Supraphonic, Black Magic or Acrolite

If you can afford it the Black Beauty is probably the best snare on the market. Supraphonic are extremely versatile, and the Acrolite is very versatile as well.

Re: Are Ludwig drums for rock?

Drums are drums! Tuning and the type of heads are a factor as well. Buddy Rich used Ludwig along with Rogers,Slingerland and Radio Kings and he pretty much got the same sound out of all of them. Drum...

Re: sale: SONOR 1970's Smoky Acryl Champion

Great drums!! That is a cool kit. I remember seeing a picture of AC/DC from the seventies and Phil Rudd had a kit just like yours. Very cool!

Re: Jim Kilpatrick's chops...

As a pipe band drummer myself, it's nice to finally see KilPatrick get some recognition on this site. He is the best, no one else in that circuit is better.

Re: Ludwig 5x14" Metal Snare Drum (Blackrolite)

A couple of years ago I found a 1978 Acrolite snare at a yard sale for $15.00!!!
It has the olive and blue tag. I took it home, cleaned it up and put new snares on it and I'm very happy. Next to my...

Re: What size is your main snare? Why?

My main snare is the old reliable 6.5" x 14" Ludwig Supraphonic model 402, chrome finish.
By far the best snare drum I have ever used. The drum is so versatile, and records beautifully. Someday I...

Re: Pearl Ludwig or gretsch?

When you get in to the top of the line kits that are offered by all of the manufacturers, there really is not much difference. A three ply maple shell is a three ply maple shell regardless of what...

I would like to check out that Alex Duthart book! What is the name of it?

Re: Ludwig horror stories?

Bermuda has very good advice, lean on the dealer! When I ordered my kit it took a little longer then anticipated, they were having chrome issues for the snare drums. So, I kept calling the dealer and...

Re: The Ludwig Acrolite

The Ludwig Acrolite is a great little snare drum. I had one years ago and for some reason I got rid of it, and I have been kicking myself since. Well this past summer I found one at a garage sale for...

Re: M Birch vs Stage Custom

Personally if I wanted to upgrade from what you have, I would save my money and just go for the Yamaha Recording Customs. I think they are still the best drums that Yamaha make! But that is just me.

Re: Tom dampening/muffling

Well over the years I have used internal mufflers, O- Rings, duct tape, moon gel etc, because I came from the era in which we were taught that drums had to be muffled. I always hated the way muffled...

Re: LM 400 or LM402

I use a LM402 and I absolutely love it! It is a very versatile snare drum, I play in several different bands and different styles of music and the 402 hasn't let me down yet.
