Re: Advice on becoming a teacher

Funny because I do want to start studying music professionally and I'm 38 y.o. (I studied and play the drums since when I was 18 y.o.)
Do you think I'm cut out from the music industry?

Lessons cost

Hi,
I'm on the other side of the planet (Italy) and it has been a long time that I'm considering studying with a teacher again.
How's the cost per lesson on average?
I'm talking about...

On all the drums method I've got I've never stumbled across unisons.
So I made these little exercises on the pdf.

Re: Jazz ride technique

Just recently I was beginning again to study the John Riley bebop method.
John Riley clearly states that the quarter note pulse is paramount.
I'm inclined to trust him...

Jazz ride technique

I've found this video and I'm wondering if it's correct to play the ride that way, heavily accenting 2 and 4...

Re: Jazz comping in two

Hi,
the moment the musical director asked me to comp with a two feel during a sax solo seemed strange to me because I've got limited experience and exposure to jazz music.
Then my old drum teacher...

Jazz comping in two

Despite being a purely "technical" question I'd like to know how many jazz solos were played with a two feel. Please post examples.
My question popped up today when I was playing in a jazz ensemble...

Re: Gavin Harrison here!

It's not correct to me.
The flams are on the toms with the right hand.
It's basically a 5 stroke roll with the last (or first) note playes as a flam between the snare and the toms.

Re: Regret (a confession)

You've got the very same problem I have to face: continue to study biology or give up and start a music career as session drummer.

I strongly suggest you to choose the thing you WANT to do. The...

Re: 8 Hour Practices

I disagree.
Natural talent will take you "there" much faster, plus if you're not "blessed" you'll lack that "something" that helps distinguish the ordinary player from the unordinary one.
Take Jeff...

Re: Jeff Porcaro

I'll tell ya:
when Jeff passed away in 1992 (5th August) I was taking a sunbath in a beach in Sardegna (Italy).
I didn't even know about him.
After some time I listened to Toto IV but I didn't...

Aydee,
I can only tell you "my" story.

Re: Telling me my drums are too loud.

Yeah, I see how can be played Porcupine Tree with brushes...

However I'd suggest against...

Re: Telling me my drums are too loud.

Sure, but I wasn't talking about control.
To me it's more difficult because it's more difficult to adapt my body to wider movements (loud) from short movements (soft) than the other way round.

Re: Is regression cyclical?

I think drumming is a very physical instrument, and as such it involves groups of muscles which, if not taken in full shape, will eventually affect the way we play.
This is the rusty thing.

I...
