Re: More on this Gasket Business

What's interesting about gaskets is not just that they can dampen, but also that they couple/decouple and affect the mass of the entire drum. I'm no physicist, but lugs, for example, don't resonate...

Re: 8 lug snare drums. Thoughts?

I picked up a 6 lug marching snare for nothing (literally nothing, I sold some parts for more than my cost) and would like to suggest you look at some no-name options to see if they strike your...

Re: Dave ghrol Nirvana Drum Kit

I like this setup too. Are you handy? I want a 14" rack and 20" floor or gong, and I can piece it together and refinish, and cheaply make a 20" floor out of a bass drum. It would just need lugs,...

Re: Tama Superstar King Beat

Adapters are pretty easy to make out of aluminum, I plan to use nylon washers as spacers. I wouldn't drill that shell.

Re: The Cheap Snare Thread

I have a Tama that appears to have the same 2.5" spacing. The ones that appear to work so far are:

- p83, p85, p86, p88
- the current Dunnett
- Inde
- Some generics that I've seen on $40 chrome...

Re: The Cheap Snare Thread

Tama Swingstar and other seamless steel shells, same as the Mastercraft/King Beat snares, but under $100 at times and different (cheaper) lugs/hoops/strainers.

Tama Starclassic wood snares. Mine...

Tama Starclassic Performer Birch 90s (?) help

Hi all. You've been a tremendous help in dating and explaining this era of Tama stuff when I was dating my snare. What can you tell me about this era kit? All birch? What made it a 'performer'? I...

Re: I'm tired of standard drumkits. Need inspiration and ideas

I've been planning something in this vein, more out of necessity than anything. I want big toms, I want them close together, and I don't really want a 2-down setup. Sort of like what Iggor Cavalera...

Re: How Much Crap Can I Put On A Bass Drum?

Yeah but they had re-rings, don't forget. I've actually looked at shells sort of a lot lately, and trying to get mahogany or re-rings cheap is hard. I want a custom kit or to repurpose shells, and...

Re: Whats the most useless object in your spares box?!

I would gladly trade you for the snare trigger, and possibly the mics.

Re: How cool is this?

1. Trucks are cool.

2. Is OP gigging a 28"? OP is cool.

Re: Whats the most useless object in your spares box?!

Clamp-on muffler, still in package. Seemed like such a good idea at the time.

OP, show pics of cracked block. Not sure why this fascinates me, I have LP Sambagos and a Pearl clave block and use...

Re: How Much Crap Can I Put On A Bass Drum?

Absolutely I am! I can put a stand on the right side as well, and the hats probably on the kick. One stand and one side stealth isn't too much at all.

Re: How Much Crap Can I Put On A Bass Drum?

This is a very fair point, and one I hadn't considered. But people do mount rides on their kicks without issue. A single stand opposite the stealth rack could be used to handle both cymbals, and...

Re: 12" or 14"

Cool sizes! I have a 13" and a 16", and was thinking of a 14 instead of the 13. I would have no problem with 13-14-16-18. For all of the people saying that you don't get enough separation (and a lot...

How Much Crap Can I Put On A Bass Drum?

After looking at Iggor Cavalera's kits and offset tom setups and guessing my tom needs, I'm plotting a setup with offset toms on a stealth rack. I'm thinking a Ludwig rail, or possibly two, to hold a...

Re: Thoughts On Short Stack Floor Toms?

You think 2" is a big difference, from 16x14 to square? I've set up my ft live, with and Emperor, and dead, with a Performance II, and at no point have I thought that it needs all the resonance it...

Re: Refinished Ludwig Accent

Hey, realize this thread is about a year old, but would love to know what you ended up using, both the wrap and final adhesive and overlap(?).

I'm doing a snare in tolex and may attempt a whole...

Thoughts On Short Stack Floor Toms?

I've seen some shorty kits, and usually the floor tom is near full depth, or maybe 16x12. Has any heard or played 16x8, 16x10, 18x10, or similar?

Re: The new acquisition - walnut thermagloss!

Cool sizes! Don't drill that 15, it's an odd size, possibly hard to find, and if you really want a 15x12 marching snare, they're not that expensive or hard to find. I think I have two 14x10 snares...

Re: How important is wood type and shell construction for a kick drum?

I didn't know what my kick was made of, and recently found out it's probably poplar. I really like it. My feeling is that, sure, it may matter, but they can all sound great. I've also seen kit with...

Re: Pros who play low-ish end or midrange kits?

I have to assume that's a rider/rental situation. I've seen Brann Dailor, I think, with different kits, and Dan Wilding plays a Starclassic, but I've seen him with lower end Tamas. I know Carcass...

Re: PDP Model Hierarchy

I like the Ludwig Accent Custom CS Elite Long Name birch kits a lot, but I would only take them for cheaper than a similar kit, they had some QC issues. I know about the Yamahas but would lean toward...

Pros who play low-ish end or midrange kits?

I've been thinking about this for a while. I know Brann Dailor played new Rockstars before going to Starclassics, and Suicide Silence's drummer played old Rockstars before upgrading. I've seen an...
