Re: Base Drum volume. HELP Please talk me down off this ledge.

I'd like to see how it turns out, but that drum is going to vibrate and resonate. My sub box in my car was pretty heavy back in the day. With the magnet on a big speaker like that she will be heavy...

Re: Audix I5 vs Shure SM57 comparison video

The D6 is amazing. It just "works"

I should do another side by side of these two with different snares and tunings, because there have been a few times the I5 has made more of a difference than...

Re: Audix I5 vs Shure SM57 comparison video

That's a good point. It is more solid. I have hit mine with a FEW sticks lol.

I also prefer the look of the I5 as well. I am a function over form guy so it is very minimal, and I will always...

Re: Audix I5 vs Shure SM57 comparison video

Haha very similar ideas forsure. my snare and toms were tuned pretty good

I5 is VERY similar to the SM57, SO close that if you owned one, I wouldn't tell someone to go buy the other. But for...

Audix I5 vs Shure SM57 comparison video

Here is a little video I made of the 2 different mics on my snare. I have some solo tracks, and some with the full drum tracks. I show with no EQ/Compression and also with a full mix.

They are...

Re: New kit time :)

You bring up a lot of good points.
My MCX is a 20 kick, So adding a bigger bass drum for the second band might be pretty fun. I was looking for a bit more volume.

The MCX is no slouch. It...

Re: New kit time :)

My MCX is a virgin kick, my last few have been. I have used racks also. That Tama Starclassic mount is pretty incredible.. Plus. You CAN still take the mount off and mount to a stand if you so...

Re: New kit time :)

So I'm still kind of torn. haha.

The maple doesn't have the bass drum mount and the Performer B/B does which is kinda nice for gigging. the maple is also a good chunk more money.
If they were...

Re: New kit time :)

So I actualy got to try out a performer B/B and all I can say is WOW!

The rack toms sounded much better than the SQ1 I tried, the floor tom on the SQ1 was pretty insane though.

But I didn't...

Re: Powdercoating aluminum and effect on sound?

Hmmm.. I wouldn't say negatively changes the sound in all cases. But it will change it.

I had a Pearl brass free floater that was getting patina and rust. It was beyond repair. Rather than dump it...

Re: Metal drumming, help me choose between theses 3 sets

In the 80's sure. I don't know about you, but with that set up my bass drums would be too fast to really sound like anything other than a low rumble.

A 20 or 22 give a nice punch and with a mic...

Re: Metal drumming, help me choose between theses 3 sets

I need more Superstar vs Starclassic... I am also kinda looking at the Starclassic performer B/B, but the Superstar sizes did interest me. What other differences did you notice, what tuned up...

Re: Bd size options / experience

Re: Bd size options / experience

I have owned a Sonor Bop kit for years and will chime in on my 18x16

Sure, you can tune them right up. amazing jazz bop sounds. But you can also tune them pretty low and with an emad that thing...

Re: New kit time :)

I think I am leaning to the SQ1 if I go Sonor, although that AQ2 is much cheaper, and comes with more drums, so that might make sense why you think that.

Winnipeg. Quite a drive, although, If...

Re: New kit time :)

That starclassic BB is at the top of the list still, just way more money than the rest. haha

The SQ1 and Starclassic are where I am leaning, I want to see HOW MUCH difference the SQ1 is over the...

Re: New kit time :)

Just found out about an SQ1 in 22,12,16 at the local shop I might check out.

I guess I like punchy, but I also like tone and resonance. . I like a nice sustain with plenty of attack I should have...

Re: New kit time :)

I've only played maple, the professional dx series i had year back had a birch tom or 2 on it.

I even looked at other companies as well. It's stressful being in the 1000-2000 range. There are far...

So, I have been buying and selling gear for years. I have never owned a NEW kit, but owned the following kits and all in pretty good shape at some point.

11 piece pearl professional DX series...

Re: Fast double bass rolls

I'm a socks guy because that is what I wear at home.

In one band I play in shoes at gigs, the other I need to wear socks for heel toe because I am used to it.

I do find I can hit harder with...

Re: Fast double bass rolls

id count it in 16ths though, as most metal is.... sounds a bit faster than 170bpm to me, maybe 180/190? tough to say, just use an online metronome, get it close and practice.

Re: Pearl Session Studio Select??

I have contacted pearl on a few occasions and EVERY time they got back to me and fixed the issues WAY above what I expected. Their customer service has been unreal and will keep me with them.

Re: Looking for more learning material relating to the 40 standard rudiments

I'm with Tony.

Rudiments ALLOW me to be creative on the kit i find.

And out of 40 I use about 10 of them all the time, and 30 of them almost never.

It won't hurt learning them, but it isn't...
