Re: Vintage Yamaha C200 kit- ready to gig!

All things considered, it sounds pretty good :)

Re: Worst expensive snare you've ever owned?

All the snares I've ever owned have been good - some exceptional, but there's quite a few I've worked on that have shocked me with the horrible construction quality & dime pinching, considering the...

Re: Next musical: "Little Shop Of Horrors"

Great to hear you're getting through this mammoth task, & good to have a bit of walnut love in the vibe too :)

Re: New snare - If you've got a spare 5k kicking around

Exactly! I pay 1% of value for the all risks insurance, but I negotiated that trade deal. Even if the seller shops on the open market as a retail customer, the max he'll pay is 2% of declared value...

Re: New snare - If you've got a spare 5k kicking around

Nah - shipping within the UK for 250GBP is obscene. I can ship a snare from the UK, to any US state, by priority air, & fully insure against all risks to 5k, for half that amount. What he's...

Re: Base Drum volume. HELP Please talk me down off this ledge.

Ok, my thoughts Jim.

You're obviously enthusiastic about the idea of having everything contained within the bass drum, perhaps more so that the result itself? Whilst I "get" the appeal, in your...

Re: What drums intrigue you that you have NEVER owned

I've played them, & they're superb. Probably not for every application, but I'm a fan of instruments that do specific things really well / have defined character, so all is good.

Re: Snare buZZZZZZ and recording

That's the old nut that can work, but as you point out, it has an affect which can be undesirable depending on the drum - especially the bed profile. Works very differently on beds that extend...

Re: Snare buZZZZZZ and recording

Indeed! Nice job Art :) Aligning the tension from the straps makes a ton of sense. It's one of the reasons (although different) why the Rogers system works well at reducing snare buzz, & to a...

Re: Deep bass drums

There's no mystery (all other things being equal) to the difference depth makes to a drum's tone & response, but as I've been up to my eyes in shellac fumes all day, my explanation might lack clarity...

Re: What drums intrigue you that you have NEVER owned

You could buy an Origin kit & remove the reso side lugs, but I'd haunt you mercilessly ;)

Re: What's your favorite cover (maybe limit to 2-3 songs) that your band plays right now?

Each for different reasons:

Mr. Blue Sky (full length version)
Sledgehammer
All the Young Dudes

Re: When Made In Japan was a bad thing ;)

You may want to consider rigidity when selecting bass drum hoops with only 6 lugs on the drum.

Re: In the studio

Red flag #1 right there.

I don't know what to offer as advice, because speaking candidly, their approach & focus is a long way from professional in this regard. It's cool & right for a player to...

Re: Recording a cover officially - our story so far

Please let me know how that goes. I think you'll find video synchronisation is the bigger challenge, or maybe it will all sail through - I hope so :)

I've had a few, but it's usually when playing with / listening to other musicians rather than listening to drummers

Re: Hi guys. I cant tune

1st up, if your digital tuner isn't registering differences in lug frequencies, you need to go back to basics with the tuner instructions. You're obviously doing something very wrong, or the tuner...

Re: Recording a cover officially - our story so far

Good question.

Primary aim is to get the band used to recording together ahead of original material next year, & to have some fun doing so in a creative environment.

Secondary aim is to produce...

Re: Recording a cover officially - our story so far

I agree. If there was a simplified system, I'm sure many more bands would subscribe to it rather than just crossing their fingers & hoping they're not pursued. I can't see that happening though. ...
