Re: New Pearl Wood Fiberglass

I have zero interest in these drums. Leave Fiberglass for insulation where it belongs.

Re: My chance run in with Steve Gadd

Good on you for respecting the man's privacy. Last thing he wanted to do was talk drums to, from his perspective, yet another hero worshipper. guys approach him all the time and I'm sure most aren't...

Re: looking for new metal snare.

Oriollo, loved that you had a very specific vision and executed your plan. Sometimes my snares are impulse purchases that I later regret. Thanks for sharing your reviiew and enjoy that drum.

Re: Today, I came out . . .

Over the long haul that Sensitone's superior hardware will stand the test of time while the Acrolites lugs are pitting. Great choice.

Re: Tama Brass Starphonic...

While a cast drum generally costs more to make, you won't tell any difference in sound, everything else being equal.

Re: What's your latest purchase?

Hate to break it to you but I'm pretty sure the Reference brass is rolled. Darn thing is made so well that you can hardly spot the seam. I once owned the 6.5" deep version. The Reference steel is...

Re: Mapex Pro M for 300?

I once owned, and gigged with, a Pro M kit. Garbage hardware and the snare was junk (especially the toy strainer) but the toms and kick sounded great. Well made shells. Yes, at that price you can't...

Re: Buyers Remorse ?

I once owned a Made in China Starclassics bubinga kit built shortly after production moved to China for most Starclassic drums. The drums looked and sounded amazing. Flawless build quality. Just...

Re: You won't believe what Andy did

I'm confused. I thought Andy's seatmate from the plane was working on Andy's shrinkage problem in NYC. I just can't keep up with all these developments. Does everyone have shrinkage issues around...

Re: You won't believe what Andy did

There is this old saying: what goes on in NYC with a smoking hot woman you met on an airplane stays in NYC. :)

Re: Went to Memphis Drum Shop (again)...

Great story about Vinnie seeking out Ben. As much as I like Ben, George Slupick was the man. What groove! Bought my last Brady from MDS and they treated me right.

Re: Drum mic recommendations

The i5 adds even more mass if you clip it, adversely affecting tone. Its bulk also gets in the way when clipped. Tried clipping mine onto my snare the other night and I just couldn't position it in a...

Re: The 2015 funky Guru snare competition starts now! Entry details :)

Billy Ray just ripping it. Extraordinarily playing but more important to me was how his playing supported the song, never throwing in chops just to throw them in because he can. Brilliant and I liked...

Re: Brady drum kits - experience?

That's odd. Brady's Facebook page remains fairly active. I've heard nothing until the above post that has suggested that they're no longer building drums.

Re: Simple 3 mic recording - opinions please

snare and floor tom were the standouts for me; I will echo what others have said about a little more attack on the kick. All in all though this relatively simple recording process should allow you to...

Re: Have You Heard of Brady Drums?

I did swap out the heads to a coated Evans G1 and Hazy 300. In theory they're the Evans equivalent of the stock heads (Remo I believe). I'm of the firm belief that stock heads are of lower quality...

Re: Low Serial # Vintage DW Kit - Pic's Inside

Really makes you reflect on what the craftsmen who built those drums were thinking as they made them, considering the magnitude of what had transpired that day. When I learned of the events in real...

Re: Last piece of gear you forgot?

Bottom, tripod part of the throne. It was an out of state gig so I found a Guitar Center nearby and picked up the only decent throne they had, a Pork Pie for almost $200. Figured a good one can be...

Re: Bassist Mike Porcaro Dies

Another great talent left us way too soon. A local bass player I used to play with has this dreadful disease. Let's hope a cure is found soon. Rest in peace Mike Porcaro.
