Re: Pity me!

90-180 days from January 15th? Est. July or Aug? Seems a bit ridiculous for one drum and also beyond the time estimate.

Re: Playing Someone Else's Kit

I understand your plight trying to play backline kits.
Do you remember the Century Lounge Lupos and the Living Room? I used to play around those little clubs maybe ten years ago.

Re: My New Pork Pie Hip Pig Kit

Not sure what to post this in, rather than make a new thread, but I played one of these kits yesterday and they sounded and felt VERY good. For the $ anyway. The hardware seemed okay too, which was...

Re: Ludwig LM402

The p-85 is annoying, I really don't have much else to say. The throw off jams up and you can't engage the snare wires without having to lift the tuning knob and the lever. I've tried oiling the...

Re: Jim Gordon

I believe he was playing 12-13-16-24 camcos. Not sure the depth. His cymbals were old (Turkish?) Ks from what I remember : 20" K light ride. 18" K crash and 14" K hats.

Re: Jim Keltner

Love Jim Keltners playing. One of my favorite recordings/albums with Jim is Gabor Szabo's "Bacchanal"

Re: All-Consuming Hate Kills the Artistís Creativity

Musically - disenfranchised, let down, frustrated, alienated...and so on. :)

Re: All-Consuming Hate Kills the Artistís Creativity

facepalm facepalm facepalm

The good news is that the Nugent, "patriotic"/jingoist fanantic talk makes me want to watch Team America and laugh 'till my sides hurt.

Re: Other than practice- quickest way to improve?

My advice is pay for an in-demand instructor that inspires you to play and practice. One that understands the styles of music you want to play, especially. That is how you will improve the most, jmo....

Re: All-Consuming Hate Kills the Artistís Creativity

True, Morello was definitely an anarchist at some point though. Either way, they're on the libertarian left side of the spectrum - maybe not "all the way". :) But my point stands - absolute...

Re: Dylan Elise

Does he? Yeah, he is truly an entertainer and has great chops. His solos groove nicely even around all of the tricky stuff.

Re: Looking to buy a drum set

I was looking locally and found a 5x14 Acrolite listed for $50 last week....they are out there and very good drums for the money.

Re: What's your latest purchase?

I bought what appears to be a 60s or 70s Zildjian A 18" cymbal. no cracks and little keyholing, sounds pretty good. medium weight. it's almost like a crash/ride. $90

Re: Mapex Pro M for 300?

I bought a 6pc with cymbals and hardware for $450 several years ago. Basically new condition, sold all of it for $700...$400 for just shells. Didn't care for the drums, but not terrible for that...

Re: My fills are always in 8th notes/slower note rates, help!

As Jojo Mayer pointed out long ago, maybe try soloing in 16th notes and do not play anything but 16ths. Or triplets, play 100% triplets. Stay musical. It takes a lot of time and practice, and...

Re: My speed has stalled

As I went through learning the rudiments and so forth, really mastering some of them ( so I thought), practice became more about approach and how loose I could hold the sticks in my hand, how fluid...

Re: Good trade?

Just for the snare (after selling cymbals and stand), it doesn't sound like a great deal.

However if keeping all of the gear, I think it's a decent trade.

Re: The legendary Steve Gadd.

Thanks for all of the links. Keep 'em coming too :)

One of the first more "tricky" grooves I learned was that "50 ways" , I'm sure for others too.

Yeah I read that book many years ago, decades ago probably. He and Peter Grant were not particularly nice.
