Re: Playing while injured

I'm still recovering from a pinched nerve in my neck -- leads to pain in arm and shoulder, also the "electric shock/tingling" feeling. Larry's description reminded me of it -- painkillers, inc....

Re: Drumming Nightmares

Awesome ... I was waiting for someone to dream about their favorite band :)

My (sleeping) dream which I've had more than once ... an outdoor show by Foo Fighters. We're backstage before the start,...

Re: Drum store tourism

Yeah, this made me spew Diet Coke on my screen :) Very nice!

We used to have a place called San Diego Drum & Percussion ... no longer. But there's a store called Music Mart in Solana Beach ... all...

Re: Bad reviews?

Ha, love this!

Thanks for everyone's input -- and I'm glad Brady referenced the review of Spinal Tap's "Shark Sandwich" ... that's pretty much the first thing that popped into my head when I read...

Bad reviews?

Hiya ladies and gents,

A publication in my fine city does an annual review of demos submitted by local musicians. So I submitted the CD that my garage-rock band recorded last year.

I won't bore...

Re: It's confirmed: I have carpal tunnel syndrome

I'm working with someone like this ^^^ to recover from my pinched nerve (neck) and resulting pain. Also with a physical therapist.

Best of luck to you (and thanks to the folks who've provided...

Re: Pinched nerve complaint: lost gigs/rehearsals

DED: Thanks for the link to that older thread.

Jeff A.: I've asked about an MRI -- docs and PT don't seem to think it's necessary, but I'll keep asking. Physical therapist said mostly likely a...

Thanks for your insights, gents -- and now, if I don't feel up to playing Sunday, I have a note from the Dr. -- Dr. Watso :)

Pinched nerve complaint: lost gigs/rehearsals

Hi all,

I'm a weekend-warrior/amateur level drummer, so it's not like I'm missing out on a bunch of money or anything. But I'm still bummed.

Something "tweaked" in my shoulder/neck area when I...

To be able to play my new stand-up cocktail kit for more than 15 minutes without getting tired of putting all my weight on one foot :)

Hi,

Scott Devours -- cool, great to know!

Looked like Zak's kit -- red and blue acrylic, right?

Quadrophenia with "Substitute" drummer

Hiya,

The Who brought Quadrophenia to the San Diego Sports Arena last night ... without Zak Starkey. Pete came out before the show started to tell the audience: "Our drummer has a tendon problem,...

Re: When did you stop feeling like a Noob?

Well, I think I'll always feel and play like a noob ... but the first time someone handed me money for playing the drums was a definite milestone ;)

Re: Am I allergic to "2-down"?

Feel free to snort derisively, but I'm kind of a fan of the "0-down" :)

My kit has 12" and 14" rack toms and an 18" floor tom ... but one time I had to play on a stage so small I couldn't fit the...

Re: Drumming style

This is the stuff, right here. Anthony mentioned this same kinda idea in a post a while back. I've put it to good use -- really helps with my playing -- and I play 90s covers and original garage-rock...

Re: Cars/trucks for gigging. Which ones do you use?

I can actually get my "regular" kit -- snare, rack tom, floor tom, kick -- into my Mini Cooper. Stands, too, and my Target bin full of pedals, sticks, etc. No room for anyone else though! :) And I...

Re: How much do lyrics matter to you?

A whole bunch! It's about half of what makes rock/pop/blues music so appealing to me.

Re: Yes ... a lot of Jon Anderson's lyrics are almost like scatting to fit the melody. But he has a few that...

Re: Good day/bad day check-in

Pretty good day. Got home before the wife and kids, and so was able to go out to the garage and play along with Bonzo, Jimmy, Robert, and Jonesy for about 20 minutes. I'll take it!

Re: i will not play for free - none of us should.

Hi -- well, for us, it is at the moment ;) We have three paid gigs lined up for January and February. They're spaced at two-week intervals, which is as often as we want to play anyway.

We're...

Re: i will not play for free - none of us should.

Hi all,

My cover band plays mostly for pay -- but we've recently taken a couple of "free" gigs to get an "in" at [venue], be able to tell other club owners we've played at [venue], blah blah blah....
