Re: How do I know if I will stick with drums? Advice please.

Re: Preparing for the first gig

At least for the opening parts be very careful to concentrate on your timing. When I'm nervous I always start to race. And it can cause the sound to get a little messy. So, after time, I've learnt to...

Re: Chris Squire, Yes Bassist found dead

Devastated today.

My favourite bass player out of my favourite band. Gone.

It's a sad day.

RIP Fish. Thank you for some of the most wonderful music ever written and performed.

Re: Unreliable band members

Oh god...this thread is striking so many chords.

Band I'm in have a bass player who is a police Constable and therefore is committed to working shifts. Other three of us would do gigs literally...

Re: Should I Do It?

You should take responsibility and do the gig. End of.

Think about your bandmates. And think about the venue. You may be letting a lot of people down if you blow things out at such short notice.

Re: Crap rehearsal = great gig?

Yup. I tend to find that and our lot actually joke about it.

I think it's perhaps in tandem with reduced expectations.

The worst gigs I find are those you REALLY look forward to. Everyone's...

Self Indulgent Ego Massage....

I got invited last night to play on a young, up and coming, musician's next album. I think it's the nicest thing to have ever happened to me in relation to the world of music.

The band I'm in have...

Re: Should I start out with electric drums?

Not my experience of electric drums

An hour to set them up...I've played them ever since. No adjustments made, ever, in two years. Apart from one slight repair (a wire issue) which took an hour.

Re: What's your favorite drum related thing?

My 24" Sabian APX Ride cymbal which I use all of the time. It's the most versatile cymbal I've ever had.

Closely followed by my Gretsch Catalina Mod kit which always draws compliments. It's not an...

Re: Rock Gigs Not Very Rock Anymore?

Band I'm in played a Punk Vs Metal night in Manchester a couple of years back.

Opening act were called The Upside Down Ladies....pole dancers.

They didn't strip but I'm convinced one of them...

Re: Manchester Drum Show this Sunday - who's coming?

I just couldn't make it and really wanted to get there.

Did a long gig on Saturday night over in Whaley Bridge, then got drunk on Robinson's Trooper ale :-). Then had a late breakfast the Sunday....

Re: Lazy Guitarists...

Agree with you.

Our guitarist is short sighted but won't wear glasses. He has a tuner but at least once per gig he will call back to me to "lend him my glasses" so that he can fine tune his...

Re: Stage Etiquette

A few things. Gripes sort of.

I wish when there were multiple bands during a show that the next band on would wait just a few minutes to allow the previous band to clear their stuff. The amount of...

Re: Comparing ones abilities with others

You ARE probably right. All's I'll say is that I've gone through adult life trying not to be judgemental as I think it is a very damaging human trait.

So when my 17 year old daughter told me that...

Re: Manchester Drum Show this Sunday - who's coming?

If it's remotely logistically possible then I will pop over.

Good luck with the show.

Re: Manchester Drum Show this Sunday - who's coming?

I would love to attend but have a gig the evening before in Whaley Bridge and I'm staying over with the Missus and getting drunk.

It's a tragedy, for various reasons I've never been able to attend...

Re: Comparing ones abilities with others

For me it's never about the drummer, it's about the band.

I have great admiration for a good band, and also someone who is a stand out good drummer. And I'll tell them so.

But what I've...

Re: Rock Gigs Not Very Rock Anymore?

If a performing band cannot motivate an audience into listening, enjoying, and applauding the music then basically my view is that the band are not up to much really.

No different than a comedian....
