Re: Very recommended Single bass techniques?

If you want money, you chose the wrong instrument anyways.

Re: Heel up or heel down?

Isn't this exactly the same as asking if you should use wrists or fingers?

Personally I use the joints necessary to produce the sound I want. And when you use both regularly they start to morph in...

Re: Paradiddles

If you accent the first note of the paradiddle the moeller stroke is the most obvious choice for technique. If you want it to sound more like a roll without accents I would practice all the...

Re: How much time should I put into more advanced rudiments?

Yes! I I have my own rudimental ritual too. I always do Dawson's ritual but I have extended it with rudiments that I really like or which support my progress in some way. I have now practiced it with...

Re: Whats with all the pissy musicians!?

Yes. Let's all play Rockband! Hit those notes! Improvisation is wrong! Your points will go down very quickly and everyone will laugh at your low score at the game over screen!

Re: IT'S OFFICIAL!!! The 2011 WFD World Finals will be held on...

Bah, I can't break 1200 in 2011 I think. Maybe next year then. Interesting to see who will win though and what kind of technique is used/allowed. ;)

Re: Dream Theater's new drummer

I don't like Dream Theater at all but since I kind of like watching Idol & similar reality shows (please don't shoot me, some people still smoke tobacco, I don't) when I can't do anything else that...

Re: Mastering the Tables Of Time

Yes, one of my favourite books. I don't necessarily practice the exact exercises in the book daily but I try to apply the time table 'system' to almost everything I practice. I plan to go through...

Re: Are there still alot of single pedaller's out there?

Check out Keith Carlock. I think his right foot feels more left out than his left one. =P

Re: A humble plea to help a beginner....

Um..? I have heard buzz roll has many synonyms (crush roll, closed roll, multiple bounce roll) but I have never heard it called a ruff. A ruff is a ruff (four stroke, three stroke...).

Re: E-drums too loud for neighbor

First be friendly with your neighbor and talk with him/her about the issue, be polite always. Then isolate your kit from the floor with a platform. Add other kinds of sound isolation if necessary....

Re: Are there still alot of single pedaller's out there?

I haven't used my double pedal other than for practice after I got my 24" bass drum. Because it's with minimal muffling without triggers it would be just one big "whooooommmm" if I played doubles on...

Re: Help with soloing in 7

For me easiest way to do anything in odd times, be it manipulating a groove or soloing, I find it A LOT easier if I sing the melody or the 'skeleton' rhythm in my head while doing it and always try...

Re: Are you sick of the term "POCKET DRUMMER"?

Both you and SickRick have had your technique phases. So do you think you would have been even better if you hadn't had that and only focused on the groove to begin with?

But I don't know, maybe...

Re: Just found this on Wiki, wtf?

I know this old saying, it's about university politics but I think we can replace it with music forums: "There's nothing as dangerous as music forums, because the stakes are so low."

Re: Are you sick of the term "POCKET DRUMMER"?

Yes, I agree, combination exercises are the way to go. When I practice rudiments on a pad, I always play some kind of groove with my legs (the rudimental ritual style) to keep it linked to some kind...

Re: Are you sick of the term "POCKET DRUMMER"?

Yes, forgot to mention that part. Although I'm not sure about you catching up with him. To you it may seem easier that way because the difference might not be easily heard by anyone. But same holds...

Re: Are you sick of the term "POCKET DRUMMER"?

I guess it's fair enough to shoot me with that semantic cannon since I'm doing it too. =P Yeah, English isn't my first language but I think I got my point across anyways. (*hiding behind the language...

Re: Are you sick of the term "POCKET DRUMMER"?

I still see it like this: you have 2-3 years of technique and 15 years of groove playing practiced in to you. But you couldn't play like someone who has practiced 15 years of technique and only 2-3...

Re: Are you sick of the term "POCKET DRUMMER"?

(Matt said it all but I need my place to vent too =P)

First 'overplaying' and now 'pocket playing'. Seriously? Can't you see they are the opposite ends of the imaginary spectrum some jealous /...

Re: Playing exactly...

I'm always very disappointed if I have paid to see a band and all I hear is the same thing I could be listening to at home from the record for "free". Needless to say I'm not going to see many cover...

Re: speed issues

I can't play them cleanly @ 250bpm but I can play them cleanly @ 50bpm. Does that prove you wrong? I think the important thing is to clean the entire tempo range you are using, preferably using...

Re: This makes me want to cry, and practice harder.

I don't know if that analogy is at all that different because there seems to be some kind of attitude towards the chicken no matter how you cook it. Even if you can't taste the chicken anymore if you...

Re: This makes me want to cry, and practice harder.

Not really. There's many forms of jazz, even the term jazz isn't well defined. Chicken is chicken and there's only one flavor of it - chicken. That's why I said it's more like "I don't like food".

Re: This makes me want to cry, and practice harder.

Who says I care? I just don't understand how people make these generalizations about genres. There's plenty of good music and drummers in _every_ genre of music whether it's black metal or jazz. I...
