Re: Dave Weckl

Did anyone go to the clinic in Hollywood Florida? I liked it, but I wish he would've played more and talked less. I also think he sounds better when his drums are tuned differently.

Re: soundfiles of Brady Drums

To me the lower toms sound a little bigger, fuller, deeper, richer, and beefier than what they could get without a little electronic help. But obviously, the only way to know how different they...

Re: soundfiles of Brady Drums

So you're saying they're not using EQ on those, or either way it doesn't matter because it's just a soundfile?

Here's what it says on the Brady Drums website about the soundfiles:

This page has the files:

I suspect that the three lowest pitched toms...

Re: Travis Barker

I admire him for his tattoos, but I'm not sure if that counts as one of the right reasons or not.

Re: Post your Greatest Weakness

Sloppy fills especially at faster tempos.

Re: Here's a list of Stave and Solid drum producers.

Here's a segment one:

Global Custom Drum Company, http://www.globaldrumco.net/

I'm not sure how segment drums stack up to the other types. I can't imagine them being worse than block shells.

Here's another one called Witt Percussion:

Actually, I think that's all steambent, Witt Percussion. I want to know if these really sound better than ply. Everything...

Re: Al Foster

I was just being a little goofy with that post. But seriously, I'm pretty sure that he if has an endorsement agreement with Zildjian he's not supposed to play Paiste cymbals in public. Maybe that's...

Re: Stewart Copeland

One thing you might want to doing for these is play a groove several times through, then stop, then say how you're going to change it, then play through that new groove and then add fills. That...

Re: Al Foster

It sounds like you're saying he's a little bit slutty when it comes to endorsements. He just kind of goes with what he can get and what gives him the most pleasure.

Re: Al Foster

Anyone know what his situation is with cymbal endorsements? This video is supposedly from November 2004 and he's playing at least one Paiste:

But he's...

Re: Vinnie Colaiuta

There are some very interesting questions and answers on the Vinnie webpage:

Question: Has yours or Steve Gadd's head ever exploded on stage? - ( - 1/23/2006 )

Answer: Once, I think that my...

Re: Neil Peart

Yeah, it's a total package. The drumming would not be as popular if it didn't fit the music, but the drumming itself became something that the band has been popular for. Some stuff is drumming for...

Re: Neil Peart

I think the key thing is an unusual combination of impressiveness and popular appeal. Most drummers that impressive don't have that much popular appeal, or to the extent that they do, what they play...

Re: Neil Peart

I don't get it. Monkey drummers as in "using all four limbs wildly" or monkey drummers as in "unintelligent"? It has to be the first one because that's the only interpretation that makes sense. If...

Re: Neil Peart

I've gone back and listened to some of the older stuff, and it's true that nobody can deny that it's really good drumming. It's stuff where he's doing a bunch more than the average drummer would do,...

Here's what the bassist in this band that I'm playing said after watching part three of the video:

I've heard some thrash drummers do some really impressive things with speed and power and precision and I sure wouldn't look down on any other drummer if they were unable to match it if they were...

Re: Neil Peart

I think to a certain degree you're right on that one. So when people say "Neil Peart is the greatest rock drummer of all time" that has a lot more plausibility than the idea that he is the greatest...

Re: Neil Peart

Maybe I should change what I said in the first thing I posted. I said I thought 1 in 5 Berklee grads could do everything that Neil Peart could do. I wouldn't be a bit surprized if that many really...
