Re: DRUMCRAFT? Are they any good?

Actually, I'm a fan. I would play and endorse those and even buy a kit. That is, if I could ever forget about Gretsch drums...

Re: Modern Drummer March 2014 issue - why do they do this?

THIS is the reason for polls and lists, online and otherwise.

Re: Avishai Cohen and Standard Jazz Questions

My advice( you asked for it) is don't play along to any records. Practice improvising and eat that stuff for breakfast(listen) and try to imitate those sounds when you practice....I played along to...

Re: I found another crazy deal and am having a hard time fighting the urge to buy...

If I was into Yamaha, this would be a kit I'd have...I've heard them A/B'd next to a USA Gretsch and it's hard to tell the difference tone wise, which is awesome! Congrats!

Re: Attractive male drummers

I'm sure there's a way to admire attractive female drummers in a non-objectifying way, and that's the key part. Are you disregarding other facets of their abilities that plays into their...

Re: New drum kit: Gretsch Renown vs DW Design vs Sonor Select Force vs (maybe) Ludwig Centennial

Good choice, my friend! I don't think you could find a better kit for the money. Those new renowns are a bit closer(in my estimation) to the sound and feel of the USA customs. To me, it looks like...

Re: Classic 3 ply tuning methods

First of all, Im of the opinion that the number of plies is going to change the way you tune to zilch. The bearing edge could hypothetically alter the way you tune...I would suggest tuning the reso...

Re: Carlock in, Phillips out

I think hold the line and jack of speed are more similar than most might think...and anyways, Carlock didn't play Jack of Speed. Two against Nature was his only track on that album. Great album...

Re: Musicians who don't want to rehearse

Studio musicians careers have historically been built on that they can walk into a studio( that they agreed to show up at) and play (and sound good) with any player that may be there. I don't see how...

Re: Musicians who don't want to rehearse

Definitely not saying don't rehearse. I guess Ive always thought that if you do your homework AND spend a lifetime playing your instrument, the playing should be the easy part.

Re: Musicians who don't want to rehearse

I haven't read anything but just the first few posts. I don't have any problem with what the "rejects" wanted to do. In fact, it's how I identify musicians as "pro" or professional. It means that...

Re: Can a mediocre drummer be a good teacher?

I think any teacher can make any student as good as they are. That's why I've only taken lessons from players/teachers that I respect and would care to emulate.

Re: Vinnie Colaiuta

Ok cool yeah it looked very similar but it'll probably feel better given VF's denser hickory...I think the biggest difference is a longer taper...which his Z definitely didn't have.

Re: Jazz guys - bop kit tuning?

I haven't owned a true "bop" kit in a long time.... but I always tried to keep the batter in the low end of the bop range. I would crank the reso's to get a higher pitch and woody tone. Never really...

Re: Vinnie Colaiuta Drummerworld videos gone?

Yeah I don't know but VC tends to keep a pretty tight leash on such things. Although, I don't think he's online at all.....
