Re: Best way to learn a song?

To some degree this is true but let me add my 2 cents. I've been a professional drummer for better than 20 years. Initially I find great help in reading a piece of music once I've heard it for the...

Practice Help w/ MP3 or better???

Because of my hectic schedule I do not have a steady gig as drummer for a band but I do a lot of fill in work for other drummers. As a result I play a wide variety of music and often times I'm...

Re: HELP I've got a few questions about DW and Sonor Drums!

I've played both and my Sonor S-Class drums are the bomb!!! I wouldn't trade them for anything at this point. Now, having said that, make sure the Sonor drums you try out are ones made in Germany. ...

Re: Drum Shop Wish List...

Two things I'm seeing and have heard (hat I like) is a knowlegable staff and internet sales. I think one thing I would like to do is have an internet sales option in store. Let's say I do not have...

Drum Shop Wish List...

I've got a little time before I retire but when I do I'm looking forward to possibly opening my own drum shop because I hate the typical music store. So I figure the best place to find out what...

Re: Every drummer should be on here with a story

Had a guitar chord get wrapped around the leg of a cymbal boom one night. Guitar player got a little wild, started jumping and I watch my cymbal start moving across the riser. What was funny is...

Re: Funny/weird things that happened when drumming?

Ever played Zydeco music? Filled in for a drummer one night at the last minute when he got sick. Never played with this band nor the music before but they were in a bad spot with a benefit gala...

Re: the life span of a drumkit...

While my Premier kit fell apart I still have it and considering trying once again to bring it back to life. This poor kit was in such bad shape when I got it but it was all I could afford. I hope...

Re: The Ludwig Acrolite

I have a 1967 Acrolite Snare that I got my hands on in 1979. I've played so many snares since but always went back to the Acro. I've contemplated many times selling and buying something else but...

Re: Traditional grip, ring finger.......

I always had that problem at the beginning of marching season. It's just like any other part of the hand though and will develop a calous (spelling?) and will be fine in time. You want a relaxed...

Re: Post your Greatest Weakness

What's the deal with that too? I'm a 3 limbed bandit then that 4th limb becomes a spastic mess. I'm getting better but it's like my left foot is tied to my left hand. I even have trouble keeping...

Re: Im starting to teach need help!

First of all MIke I applaud your desire to share your passion of drums with someone else. I think it's great you want to do this but have to agree with Jeff on referring your friend to a qualified...

Re: Post Your Greatest Strength

Rock solid tempos. I practice with a metronome a lot and have most of my life. Works to my advantage when you have the bass player that wants to push everything (haha).

Re: Post your Greatest Weakness

Foot speed by far!!! I work with a metronome but I'm very impatient and get frustrated quickly with my feet. Playing rudiments with my feet, as noted in my previous post, has help but let me know...

Re: Post your Greatest Weakness

Something I've been doing a lot of lately is playing rudiments with my feet to a metronome. It was very odd at first but I've gotten much better with time. Once I have a particular rudiment down I...

Re: the life span of a drumkit...

Very true. My Premier kit sat under an old tour bus for way too many years when I bought it. I got it for $150 which included a 20" Avedis ride, 18" Avedis Sizzle ride and 14" Avedis hi-hats...

Re: the life span of a drumkit...

I played a 1960's Premier kit up until about 8 years ago. I bought it when I was 11 and played it until I was 35. Do the math...that's a long time of playing. It finally and literally fell apart. ...

Re: Rudiments

Rather than tell you yes or no let me tell you what practically rudiments have done for me. I take a rudiment and learn it on the snare or pad. Once I have that rudiment clean at multiple tempos I...

Re: Reading Music?

Thanks for pointing that out. I didn't pick up on the sarcasm so we're cool. I'm a little sensitive to this subject as you might can tell. I've had some students in the past with incredible...

Re: Reading Music?

Oh that's nice. You can't do something so you insult those who can. You're doing a really good job of proving my point. Reading is for those who want to excel.

Re: Sonor lines

What was the point of replacing the S-Class with the S-Classix? Was this just a marketing ploy or is there some difference in the drums? I love my S-Class drums BTW.

Re: Reading Music?

You're kidding right? Real musicians don't need to read and study? Then who wrote all the music Dude?

Re: Reading Music?

I've been reading for just over 30 years and I have lost count of the number of times I got opportunities to play over other drummers because I could read and they couldn't. It makes a huge...
