Re: screwed up my first gig

Know what? Every gig I do there's something that I didn't play right, something that was less than perfect. Every. Single. Gig. It's never going to be 100% perfect and that's part of the joy of...

Re: How sentimental are you about your drums?

I never leave them at a club overnight...even if it's a major PITA to take them home/arrive early and set up.

Re: groups of 4 fast 16th notes on single bass drum

I wish there was an upvote button here. :D

Yes, practice, practice, practice. You can do four notes on the snare then match them on the foot. Find a speed that is comfortable then just drill,...

Re: Why can't I hear tones when tuning?

You'll want to crank your snare head more than one turn each. You should use 1/2 turns, directly across from each other; if it's a 10 lug drum then skip a lug. If it's an 8 lug then view it as a +...

Re: Why can't I hear tones when tuning?

You gotta listen for overtones; lay your finger in the middle of the snare kinda lightly and it will isolate each nodal point a bit more as you tap with your other finger. Use that as the reference....

Nomar Negroni

So I get this guy's Guitar Center 2014 Drum Off solo (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kuw8aQNYA8k&list=UUTouco0W36WOUe6YON5GGEA) posted on my Facebook wall. After watching that video several times, I...

Re: Thoughts On Phil Collins??

Always loved his work with Brand X! There's not much video out on that period of his career it would seem. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EmP8NC2EOLE

Re: Snare Drum Olympics

It'll take them a while to publish the results. It's a lot of work. I set it up and did it back in 2012.

Re: Straying out of my comfort zone

My latest foray outside my comfort zone was last Monday night, I played a gig honoring the music and person of composer Steven Schwartz (Godspell, Wicked, Pippin, Pocahontas) and all that was...

Re: Grip Change Imposed UGH

Take my advice with a grain of salt.

Peter Erskine said it best "Here's how you hold a stick", put the stick in my hand and closed my fingers around it.

As long as you're not pinching too much...

Re: Tour buy in: yes or no?

Well a buy-in can be a great thing for an up and coming band and you also gotta remember it helps the headliner out as well so the system is good, IMO.

Just be smart, do all the marketing stuff...

Re: a specific question regarding trad vs matched

I agree with everyone else here, find a good instructor to evaluate what your grip is going and make the necessary changes to accommodate.

Was the tendonitis drumming-related? And why'd you jump...

Re: Cover Band Drummists - How accurate are you?

Re: Rant: Who's in charge at Gibraltar??

I see what you did that. ;)

That being said, What I've seen is that they just make something and it gets pushed out on the market post-haste.

Another thing I've witnessed is picking list...

Re: Going on Tour would like some advice!

Just make sure you've got performance agreements in place. Also, try to keep enough $ for a plane ticket home if things don't work out.

And if for some reason you ever have to ship your gear back...
