Re: How do you measure a snare for a snare bag?

Bags are sized by the drum they're intended to fit over, so you buy based on the shell size, not the actual overall dimensions.

Re: Ludwig Brass Supra

Street price on a new COB is a little over $600, and if you can find a B-stock those run about $500, so I think $400 for a used COB is good if it's in nice condition.

Ludwig snares have taken off...

Re: tama superstar classics? maple?

So they're essentially maple Silverstar with the old lugs and badges.

I guess Mapex Armory and Gretsch Catalina are getting too much of the intermediate market.

I like Tama's drums a lot and...

Re: Ludwig B stock

I think it's up to the individual dealers if they want to purchase any B stock gear to sell.

I can't recall ever seeing any of the Asian-made stuff available as B stock, probably because what...

Re: Pearl Sensitone phosphor bronze snares available again

I think that's what has led many companies, including Pearl, to scale back/discontinue a lot of their snare lines; the fear that rising costs would be off-putting. That's they're back again shows...

Re: Snare for a $200 budget

I think it depends a bit on if you like/want a wood or metal snare tone.

In a lot of ways they're pretty similar; 8 lugs, basic "functional" side-throw strainer, 14x5" size...everything but the...

Re: Ludwig purchasing rant.

Another vote for Interstate Music. I've bought a lot of Ludwig heads from them and I know they have the snare wires too. If the other stuff isn't listed on their site, just call them. They're...

Re: Old and new

Asking another musician about what or who inspired them is a really common question, but asking them who inspires them currently is just as (if not even more) valid. Putting a specific name into the...

Re: "Restoring" my old snare.

http://sleevedwashers.com/

I have them on all of my drums and bass drum claws now and I really noticed a difference in the smoothness when tuning.

Re: "Restoring" my old snare.

Most any good metal polish should clean up the lugs and hardware just fine.

DW tension rods have a different thread pitch and will not fit into the inserts of any other maker. If you really...

Re: Club Date SE or Signet?

If I could get a USA-made Ludwig kit, in a finish and price I liked, I'd stop wondering right there and just do it.

The new Club Date kits seem nice "for what they are" but glancing at a kit in my...

Re: looking for new metal snare.

All of the Pearl Sensitone drums are nice, as are Ludwig Acrolites. The Supralites are another solid choice if you want some size options. I prefer deeper drums, and the Supralite is available in...

Re: Irony?

Pearl seems a little more guilty than most of releasing "signature" snares that bear only a passing resemblance to the drum that artist actually uses. The Joey Jordison, Chad Smith, and Morgan Rose...

Re: Need info on this Ludwig kit please...

Ludwig did (and still does) keep all of their older hardware available for special orders, so while the Modular mount was the most common, they'd build a kit with the Classic mount if asked. That's...

Re: Need info on this Ludwig kit please...

If it's an '89 kit (and I don't see anything that makes me think otherwise) then they'ed either be 6 ply Classic maple/poplar shells or 4 ply Super Classic maple/poplar shells.

At first glance the...

Re: Help me choose which thread to read about which kit to buy

It helps to know at least a little about what you want from a kit, your budget, and your intended playing situation before getting too far into asking opinions or starting "which is best" kinds of...

Re: Looking for help choosing a pro level drum kit

If you want something versatile and American made is a consideration I'd suggest Ludwig Classic Maple.

However, I'd suggest holding off until you actually get started at school. Spending over...

Re: Help me find a good Drum Kit

The PDP Mainstage kit I saw was junk so I wouldn't spend anything on one. The Imperialstar kits are "good for the price" and are pretty solidly built though as mentioned the included cymbals aren't...

Re: Looking for solid value kit on a $1500-$1700 budget.

Gotcha!

I'd look at a solid mid-level kit (Mapex Meridian/Tama Silverstar/Yamaha Stage Custom) to free up some room in the budget for better quality cymbals.

At least the markup in drum...

Re: Looking for solid value kit on a $1500-$1700 budget.

I agree; the 3rd and 4th kits are insanely priced. The Mars Pro was probably $700 new, and the Meridian Maple kits are getting blown out for about $600 brand new right now.

If truly looking at a...

Re: Tips for learning 7/8 time?

I agree that the easiest way to learn (and play) odd times is to play to the melody or bass line. Also, the subdivision (how the two and threes in the pattern fall) is going to be determined by that...

Respectfully disagree. The G Maple models had brushed nickle hardware, a different throwoff, abalone inlay, and decal badge.

Re: Need help identifying exact model of this starclassic snare please

The badge, throw off, and finish points to it being a newer Starclassic Performer B/B.
