Re: Big Band drum thread.

U.S. Navy Big Band (one of the fleet bands) for about four years. Various swing/society orchestra gigs. These days I don't what's harder to find:
An audience or the player's who can properly...

Please stop drawing graffiti and signatures that would rival John Hancock's on the inside of...

Re: Meytal Cohen? She plays, right?

Yeah Bea Arthur. Or Roseanne Barr or Rosy O'Donnell while I think of it.

Re: Ludwig Classic Maple Snare - New or Used

Assuming that you are able to look at and play the drum in person before the purchase, I say go for it. The price difference should be significant between that drum vs a new one. Ludwig has and does...

Re: Meytal Cohen? She plays, right?

At my age I'd feel guilty looking at a girl her age. And since I don't want to see Maude playing the drums, I guess I'll settle on watching a nice middle-aged well dressed Gal who can really play.

Recommend a metronome app?

I have an I-pod and am looking for a good metronome app that I can download from ITunes-one that lets you pick a wide range by individual bpm.
I've noticed some of the metronomes on Youtube have a...

Re: NAMM 2015, who's going? Meet-up @Ludwig?

Is this open to anyone or is it by invitation only?
I've never been to one and not sure what it is, but it sounds interesting.

Re: Yes, professional grade drum kits are pushed!

If I had Disney's budget, I could keep everything I own outside all winter long. Then replace it as I felt needed. But I understand the point you're making about well-built gear holding together...

Re: what are some great books about drummers you have read.

I just finished reading "Diary of a Rock Tour" by Gordon Marshall. There's some hilarious stories and anecdotes of life on the road.

Re: exotic woods ?

I own a stave cherry shell drum. It's quite sensitive and articulate, great for orchestral playing. The shell is 1-1/2" thick. It's very nice.

Re: Practice to Mastery?

I say try to master your area of interest. Study like hell at what grabs your ear.
For example- Dave Weckl is a Master at what he is known for with his style of jazz/funk/fusion. Gavin Harrison is...

Having both of these Ludwig's can cover a lot of ground musically. And purchased together they still cost less than some high end metal snares out there today...

Re: Drumset with a +- 2000 Budget

I personally recommend a well made used kit. You will probably hear other people as well suggest that you should look for a gently used kit in the configuration you like.
You can save enough money...

Re: Yamaha Recording Custom 14X8 Snare drum

If I was to buy snare from a RC snare the 80's/90's it would probably be a 7x14 to get that classic sound so well known from that era. For an 8" deep shell it would most definitely be a Ludwig...

Re: The foot is the key to groove

True. How the foot placement falls into the beat determines the groove. Of course so do the hands. Consider the slightly laid back snare hits on 2&4 of West Coast studio drummers VS East Cost. It's a...
