Re: club date se

I hope Ludwig keeps them around and offers new finishes in the future. Can you imagine that cherry outer ply with a nice satin finish? Would be sweet. Some new wraps would be cool too.

You better hop to it then before I buy all the remaining supply. Muahahahaha!

Re: club date se

The rail has its limits as to how high you can place the tom but I have no problem getting the tom in a comfortable spot so I don't mind it. It has infinitely more left/right/front/back adjustability...

Re: club date se

I don't think so, I bought one off the shelf just this past November. A Ludwig dealer can probably order one for you if they don't have in stock. But they probably won't be around forever so best not...

Re: club date se

I have 2 matching shell packs (Downbeat and Fab 22 plus a snare) and I absolutely love them. They are warm and and have a vintage thump due to the round edges. The snare sounds fantastic but is sold...

Re: US/Canadian exchange rates INSANE

Yeah, looks like I won't be doing much eBay shopping. Oh well, nothing lasts forever and it was fun being at par while it lasted. I wonder if it will get as low as it was in the 90s.

Re: Vintage stuff. Period.

Part of me would love to have a vintage kit but another part of me thinks the quirks would drive me nuts. I may still get one some day but I'll make sure I can try it first. I have replica vintage...

Re: Gretsch Broadkasters Vintage Build; Floor Tom Legs Rattle Against Rezo Hoop

And it's a perfectly fine bracket with a similar aesthetic but it actually works properly. This is the one I would choose too. I wonder, is it the same hole spacing as the old diamond bracket? If so...

Re: Gretsch Broadkasters Vintage Build; Floor Tom Legs Rattle Against Rezo Hoop

The drums are beautiful but that problem would drive me crazy. I can't believe they don't make a thicker gasket like the one available for the Ludwig classic bracket. Such an easy fix.

Re: Gretsch difference

Yeah, at $1100 the NC is starting to look more attractive. Which one speaks more to you? They're both great kits but you must be leaning more one way. Now price is less of an issue so I say go with...

Re: Gretsch difference

Nice deal with the snare! No that's not the RN1 I suspect. The silver slate was available on the previous generation Renown which I prefer actually. Jump on that!

Re: Gretsch difference

I vote Renown as well. I like 20" bass drums and yes the $300 saved can go towards a cymbal or just be saved. Is it the older Renown or the RN1? Is it new or used? You can probably find a used Renown...

Re: Gretsch Broadkasters Vintage Build; Floor Tom Legs Rattle Against Rezo Hoop

They're your drums but I think thicker or more gaskets would be a better solution than bending the legs. I would probably make my own gaskets out of something thick enough to clear the hoop.

It's...

Re: Gretsch doesn't answer emails?

You mean something you would have done to make the wrap come loose? Unless you mistreated the drums somehow I doubt it. Probably a glue issue. What did your dealer say about it?

Re: Gretsch doesn't answer emails?

Have you tried going through your dealer? They can usually handle warranty issues.

Re: Peter Erskine moves to Tama...

For me that changed when they went from Artstar to Starclassic some time in the 90's. Starclassics don't look metal to me, at least nowhere near as metal as Artstar/Granstar did. As for sound, well,...

Re: Thoughts on switching from upbeat to downbeat (thrash metal)

This will probably sound silly but I'm a fan of the bass drum on the down beat with skank beats. It just sounds more thrashy to me. Of course when used effectively, switching is very cool like in...

Re: new offerings from Craviotto

The center lug is sure making a comeback. So is nodal point lug position mostly baloney? I think it probably is.

Re: Independence vs learning set patterns

I agree with this. I don't have anywhere near complete 4-way independence but that has never prevented me from playing music. I wouldn't waste my time trying to achieve it either.

Most drum solos...

Re: Independence vs learning set patterns

I think it's John Riley who said something along those lines. He prefers the word, "interdependence" because it implies that the limbs are working together as a unit and not separately. I think he...

It's a little soon to be saying this. We don't even know what the shell situation is yet, do we?
