Re: What's your latest purchase?

I posted this on another thread but I love them so much I got to show them off. Got these Guru ovangkol wood hoops to try on my Sonor Artisan Amboina 13X7 snare as a Christmas gift from my...

Re: Switching grips

I didn't mean to discourage you. I haven't given up but I really thought it would come much easier and more natural than I'm finding. I now realize it may take some work and time to develop it. You...

Re: Switching grips

During my early years of playing I played traditional grip. Took a hiatus from playing and then returned and started matched. Now I'm trying to go back to traditional and it is too frustrating. I...

Re: 24" bass drum - 10" main snare, surely not?

Wow it definitely has some tuning range-which surprises me I would have thought it would choke out and be more flat and less range with such a small head. The highest almost sounds like a timbale....

Re: You know you're a drummer when...

You play the drums.
I have often wondered if drummers share common gene alleles that drive the desire. Playing kit in an orchestra and some jazz groups I note other musicians will start drumming...

Re: Warning - Hidden dangers of drum building.

Wow never thought about possible toxins from woods. Makes since certain trees like Black Walnut make a natural herbicide-jugalone that kills neighboring vegetation. Hickory trees are so nasty beavers...

Re: The natural meter challenge!

Play Bolero (easy little repetitive sequence no problem) on your snare for 15 minutes-I think that is the short version. You may not test your time but you dang sure will your sanity. LOL.

Re: Video clip - popcorn snare / Tour series kit

Sounds great-I'd thought it would be higher pitched-the depth must offset? Did you make it from an unused tom, or was this a special project? My bad didn't have my hearing aids in-it is high pitched....

Re: HELP, permanent beastmode

With all the acoustic drum screens use nowadays the need to "play" quieter seems a dying necessity. I hate the dang things because I like the interaction with bass and piano players, but I appreciate...

Re: Drummerworld inventors

Disposable drums made of hemp paper mache'. They'd be light weight, disposable or recyclable (hee, hee), you could set a candle in them and they would levitate like a Kongming lantern, or set your kit...

Re: Meytal Cohen? She plays, right?

Cool Karen Carpenter was a drummer-from Wikipedia:"Carpenter started playing the drums in 1964. She was always enthusiastic about the drums and taught herself how to play complicated drum lines with...

Re: Meytal Cohen? She plays, right?

She is an attractive young lady who plays well. Awesome I support that. But if it isn't my imagination she does seems to try and be seductive in her dress and eye play-but then again she is gorgeous...

Re: First studio drum experience - Advice?

Ha, ha. It's eye opening to video yourself, listen to yourself recorded, and listen to your playing from the audience perspective. I use to play in this large building with weird acoustics such that...

Re: Let's Talk Definitions

Good point larryace-even bird songs are quite musical. Dove cooing and luring in a mate is quite soothing as others. Hmmm "music" perhaps just isn't unique to human animals but likely quite a few...

Re: Let's Talk Definitions

I thought a musician was a person who "performs music"? Doesn't qualify how? So spoons and a kazoo can make music as a guitar and cajon.
Well wrong again it does qualify in Wikipedia:"A musician...

The parallel I find between Hendrix and Moon is they both "Zap" you with their "energy" it really is "electric".

Re: Does playing covers change you?

It's the simple and slow stuff that always kills me. I was playing the repetitive snare cadence on Bolero for a civic orchestra. I practiced with a Youtube video that did it at a pretty good clip...

So this time it is you and on Guru's? I was confused earlier-which happens more and more lately ; ). Great job Andy-nice driving kick, snare and cymbal accents-accompanies the music perfectly. Drums...

Re: Are you a drum person or a cymbal person

Well I'm bringing the sticks, brushes, and rutes. Cause you need them to play either. We can bargain like Cutthroat Kitchen I'll trade you one stick for snare?
