Re: Mapex Black Panther Blaster

I've had my Blaster kit for almost two years now, and absolutely love it. A good friend of mine nearby has a Saturn, and they stack up very similar. Both low and growly, with deep punching tones......

Re: lucky charm?

About four years ago, when gigging with my (now ex) band, I won a VERY ugly sparkly gold trucker's cap at a bar. I wore it to the next gig, and it was good. I didn't wear it to the next gig, and in...

Re: Drum capo?

A good buddy of mine here in town came to a jam night a couple of weeks ago with a homemade djembe that did that. He put a bicycle tube between the rim and the head, and then ran a piece of surgical...

Re: Mapex Armoury

I own the Mapex Blaster kit, which has the exact rack tom mounts and the floor tom mounts (including the spring-loaded legs) as show in that video (same Walnut Burst finish too)... The difference...

Re: Played my first Gig last night.

Yes guy! That's some motivation, and a hell of an ego boost... I wish more musicians were as positive as him... Everyone needs that kind of reinforcement and encouragement after a gig or practice...

Re: Help me look....cooler? more relaxed?

I mentioned this a few replies ago, but I finally sat down with a local tattoo artist and after a nearly 6 hour session, got it done... I'm not sure if it makes me "cooler" or not, but I definitely...

Re: Cajon players - rock back or hunch over?

My cajons have the standard little rubber feet, and I always rock it back until I'm nearly at the tipping point... Then, I really make sure that my chest is kinda puffed out, my back has got a nice...

Re: Help me look....cooler? more relaxed?

I've always felt the same way Doc. I've been studying martial arts since I was a kid, and the one constant has always been efficiency of movement, which is something I guess I transfer to my playing...

Re: Help me look....cooler? more relaxed?

I'm so happy right now, I'm going to be walking around all day today with a huge smile on my face... I know 100% that every time I sit behind my drum kit from now on, I'm gonna be thinking about you...

Re: Help me look....cooler? more relaxed?

Agreed. The drummer (usually) is in the middle of the stage, and even tho they're (usually) at the back, they're always a center-piece of the band, so get a lot of attention... I'm always aware of...

Help me look....cooler? more relaxed?

So I've started a new rock band project with a group of other expats over here in Taiwan, and we're really getting started... We're jamming once or twice a week, and we've started laying down some...

Re: Cajon fatigue?

Interesting technique. I've always felt that when I'm playing the cajon, the audience is staring at my (for lack of a better term) gentleman's sausage.... Depending on the audience, this is sometimes...

Re: Not sure if this has been brought up before...

+1 to this.

That urban myth about freezing sandals/shoes to kill the bacteria is tired and old and doesn't work.

Spray lightly with an alcohol solution, let the alcohol evaporate (takes only...

Re: What was the name of your first bands?

My first band: Scavenger District.

It was actually kinda fun, we had a big yellow diamond road sign that had the silhouette of a turkey vulture sitting on a dead tree. And my bass drum had...

Re: The Best Hard Rock/Metal Snare!

I tried both the Sledgehammer (hammered brass) and the Machete (steel) at my local shop here in Taiwan. The Sledgehammer was a beast, and sounded amazing. I was really close to buying it, and I...

Re: Completely Gutted! (Warning: Graphic Images)

Uh, I'm not trying to start an argument here, but bleach DOES kill mould. Most mould killing products use the exact same active ingredient (sodium hypochlorite) as bleach. Bleach, ammonia, borax,...

Re: Mapex Hammered Phosphor Bronze Snare?

Thanks Dre, I sent him a PM....

Yeah, there's no commitment at all. I just really want to get a brass snare, and this seems like a good deal. Plus, I've seen him use this snare at a couple of...

Mapex Hammered Phosphor Bronze Snare?

I've been looking at brass snares for a while now, as it would (sorta) complete my arsenal of snares. I've got a maple/walnut, birch, steel, and aluminum, and I really want that brass sound now.......

Re: Mapex Saturn IV

I've got the Black Panther Blade, the Machete's little brother, and it's awesome. I almost went with the Machete, but for some reason the sound of the Blade attracted me more. It's gonna look...
