Re: My Half Time Shuffle

Interesting comments. Thanks.

By the way, that audio clip came out of a notation program called Aered. :)

I think I will also do a version of mine with ghost notes.

Re: How tense are you when you play?

I'm not playing out at this moment, but when I did, outside of maybe the first 30 seconds, I was always very relaxed.

Re: Is Don Henley relevant here?

Any musician who plays for the song is relevant to me.

Far too often, excellence is measured by flash and speed instead of by what can come from the heart.

Henley generated more great...

My Half Time Shuffle

I have been enjoying playing Porcaro's Rosanna Shuffle, and I started experimenting with my own approach to a half time shuffle.

See the attached images for one example.
Note the sticking and...

Re: A dumb customer?

This stuff is a disgrace, and it hurts all of us.

Reeks of someone with too much discretionary income looking for a new thrill and changing his mind like a child. In a saner world, there...

Re: Long, Detailed in depth review of the Taye GoKit

I have always had my eye on these kits. They look like my kinda kit.

Re: What is your drum setup pet peeve?

Very large kits in small, quiet venues.

It screams

- "hey look at my toys"
- "my drum talent is proportional to the size of my kit"
- "mine's bigger than yours"

Book: The Funky Six by D. Scott Williams

I didn't find a thread on this, so I thought I'd put one up.

I'm working in this book, and I'm really enjoying it.

It's a complete method for the 6/8 Funk Shuffle. It's the Rosanna / Purdie...

Re: DIY - SmartPhone Holder on Cymbal Boom

I used to simply use a second cup holder. One cup holder for a drink and one cup holder for the phone. No invention necessary.

Re: 18" bass drum for rock!

You'll probably get suggestions here to go with a bigger bass drum.

But, in my opinion, you can get as much low end as you need out of a mic'd 18.

I played for several years with a mic'd 16,...

Re: Drums are so personal, a bad kit tale

I have experienced this.

In my last band, we used to rehearse at the band leader's house. His son played drums, so I'd use his kit.

Between the drum angles, the Projection cymbals, and the...

Re: Shallow drums - low rock tuning

Andy has serious tuning skills.

I have always tuned for short tone. I know many these days prefer a more open sound, but I always love short/fast.

Again, absolutely fantastic all around.

Re: Drum fads: Past, present...and future?

Now for a serious answer:

I seem to notice more and more compact kits. I applaud that, and I think that will continue. I don't know about you guys, but for me, moving the kit is the very, very...

Re: Drum fads: Past, present...and future?

Re: Drum Shields??

I'm late to the party, but, here's two cents:

This is not meant for Bermuda, but rather a response to some of the original comments 3 years ago:

- If a venue has a shield, you have to deal with...

Re: BeBop Kit Help

I've become the poster boy for this kit :) so I'll mention it here, but it's a low end kit.

Pearl Roadshow Jazz Kit.
18x12 bass drum, 10x7 and 14x10 toms, 13x5 snare.

Re: Theatre gig!

Theater stuff can be great joy.

I haven't done it in a long time, but in my early years, I played 2 shows with local theater groups - Guys and Dolls, and Anything Goes. Never had so much fun.
