Re: Been documenting my snare drums more.

This is so absolutely not my fault, but it's a great Idea. In fact, I'm thinking of stealing it, but taking it a step further (not in terms of playing prowess however :(

Big maple fun :)

I just couldn't stop smiling whist recording this. I set it up & tuned it real quick, & just pressed record. The first time I hit the bass drum I was just so pleased by how it filled the room,...

Zebrano Tour series snare video - the competition prize snare :)

Three different tunings, starting with low & fat (unusual for a 13" snare). Another one from the demo room. This time, the wonderful 13" x 7" Zebrano Tour series snare. Just like the kit, it's...

Re: Santos rosewood snare video

That's completely cool Larry. This snare has a distinctive character, & like all characters, it either floats your boat, or it doesn't. I greatly appreciate your honesty Larry, & I'm pleased you...

Re: Andy inspired me to demo some of my snare drums.

Well Bill, I'm torn on this.

On one side, I'm please, nay amazed, that I inspired anyone to do anything.

On the other side, damn you and your vastly superior advanced playing!!! :(

Re: Santos rosewood snare video

Ok, good point Bill, & thanks for chiming in. Perhaps I'll do a "with & without" close mic take in future demo's. TBH, it's much easier to get an "impressive" sound with close mic'ing in the mix...

Re: 14/16/18 bass drum (depth size)

First of all, there's a huge difference between a bass drum that's designed to be a specific depth rather than simply a deeper or more shallow version with identical construction as is usually the...

Re: Derek Roddy here!

All really good stuff Derek. Loving the soundscape on this new material.

You need to hurry up with this studio too - you've got a deadline to meet, remember? ;) ;) ;)

Re: First time drilling a shell

Nice job. I don't believe the floor tom cradles really work well. There's no such thing as full isolation, & the added mass of the assembly negates any potential benefit IMO. I think you did the...

Re: Warning, imminent British invasion of New Jersey & New Orleans!

Oh you boys!!! (said in a droopy wrist kinda fashion) ;)

Best paper plates? We used to dream about paper plates. Next, you'll be telling me you've upgraded the Izal (now let's see who links the...

Re: Santos rosewood snare video

Thank you. Although not a true rosewood, santos rosewood (or pau ferro) carries all the usual rosewood traits. Full lows, crisp highs, but the signature "party trick" is complexity in the midrange....

Re: Warning, imminent British invasion of New Jersey & New Orleans!

Wow, such a tempting & generous offer, but I'll have to decline on this occasion. It was all looking so agreeable until you mentioned running sound for your band ;) ;) ;)

Only transiting this...

Re: The worst gig of my life

& next time you want to share my kit, don't even think about asking to adjust it. I like it exactly how it is ;)

Re: Warning, imminent British invasion of New Jersey & New Orleans!

Sorry I can't take in a full list of locations on this trip guys, but thank you so much for the invites - ya never know!

As for Larry's kidnap plan, according to Don, that form of hotel only...

Re: Warning, imminent British invasion of New Jersey & New Orleans!

Thanks for the NO advice Doug, & also your kind invite :) It's been 15 years since I last visited Vegas. I'm pretty sure the strip has changed massively. No trip planned to Vegas, but you never...

Re: Warning, imminent British invasion of New Jersey & New Orleans!

Thanks Barry :) Unfortunately, I'm not scheduled for California on any trips I'm aware of at this time. That's a pity, because I'd like to cause that buttstrap Eder some grief ;)

Re: The worst gig of my life

I have a foot in both camps here. A "little bit of adversity" is part of the landscape, but outright extremes are another matter, that's just a lack of professionalism on the part of someone, & that...

Re: Q: Black Nickel Plating?

Welcome to the forum :)

With a thickness of circa 20 micron, any added mass is inconsequential. I can't imagine any perceivable affect whatsoever.

Re: Gong-tastic!

Neal, that looks just wonderful! Yes, Bo's fault for sure.

I love gongs, & man, I could play around in that Memphis gong chamber all day! Just the name "chamber" is exciting enough on it's own!...
