Re: How stupid is this?

Obviously your throne thinks it's Linda Blair. Pretty soon it's gonna start spewing some sort of green effluvia. THEN WHAT

On another note I just ate a bowl of Progresso split pea soup loaded...

Re: How stupid is this?

My woman sits on a drum throne at her work desk (I've trained her well!! HAHA) and she said to me "This seat lowers itself over time" and I said "Because you dismount to the right and then spin the...

Re: Is this "Unprofessional"

Tomorrow night I get to go play "new country" music with a band; it'll be my third gig with them. I went in the first night with a set of roughshod charts that could get me through the gig; all in...

Re: Andy inspired me to demo some of my snare drums.

Andy I have the whole kit mic'd up and while most of the sound comes from the close mic the "underheads" as I call them (I mic from the underneath) are also catching some of the snare sound so that...

Andy inspired me to demo some of my snare drums.

So Andy inspired me to create some demos of the snares I'm using lately. It's not all of them but a good representation of what makes my sound what it is. :D

They are by no means a "template"...

Re: Santos rosewood snare video

Man that's a beautiful instrument. Because my ear is so attuned to a close mic'd snare I'd love to hear some of the track with a mic on the snare; the open room sound is great, but really getting...

Re: Being offered a position you don't really want, but could be an experience?

Bo Eder kinda nailed it with the whole "retainer" thing. But on the other side of that is that "one thing leads to another" in a sense that you may open some doors that you thought would not open for...

Re: Using splash cymbals

Splashes are color; they are ancillary items that you can use to add little comments to the music without getting in the way too much.

If you gotta think too hard on how to use them, then don't...

Re: "Recording Heavy Drums" tutorial by Glenn Fricker

I thought it was entertaining, he raises some very salient points. I guess you have to consider who he records, one-dimensional players who know how to play in only one way (loud, fast and...

Re: Peart - would you hang out with him?

More and more people nowadays have been mistaking me for him, LOL... I swear I'm really NOT trying to cop the NP vibe! I don't even play like him.

But as far as hanging out, sure... I'd hang with...

Re: Dunnet R40

Why is an R40 "cheap"? I have had Dunnett products for nearly 15 years now and the only thing that ever broke was the Nickel throw off that came with the drum.

The Trick throwoffs are definitely...

Re: 'Open handed' hi hat speed tips?

Your weaker hand is obviously your left hand and has not developed fully. Give it time, keep practicing. Watch this video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d8EuCZIhkyI

Re: Snare Drum made from Seamless Stainless Steel Pipe

I owned a 5x14 Dangerous Ocheltree drum (the last one made actually) and it weighed in at about 26lbs.

Sold it when it fell on my toddler kid so it lived up to its namesake!

Re: 1st Joint as opposed to 2nd Joint grip

Shift your grip back to the last two fingers on your hand; the ring and pinky fingers. Not for everything such as buzz rolls but for general groove playing.

Solves the problem of gripping too...

Re: Who has to play to a click or backing track live?

OK, interesting this topic comes up right as we're recording our new album!

My band RDG (http://rdgrocks.com) usually plays without a click. For consistency purposes I've taken to piping a click...

Re: Last Minute Gig Fees

Here's how it is- You get a call for the gig, there's a bunch of unfamiliar tunes and the gig pays $xxx.xx

Do you want the $xxx.xx? Then learn the music. If you don't learn the music and take the...

Re: Drums and beer at my first ever band tryout!

Keep your monster on a leash. Whatever you decide to put in your body to "get you to your happy place" if that's what it requires just make sure that it doesn't affect your playing and flow. Or turn...

Re: Just got home from a gig and I'm just so bummed

For starters, don't be so hard on yourself. It's only music and no one was hurt in the commission of the musical faux pas that occurred.

As for your hoop, that's a bummer but here's what you do-...

Re: Technical playing and grooving

The two elements, "technical" and "groove" combined into one would be better thought of as "flow".

Basically when you're playing drums you're creating a rhythmic structure or outline, for lack of...

Re: How to politely and professionally quit

I have told people "This isn't a good fit" and just left it at that. Don't burn bridges though. Agree to work as a sub unless it's an indubitably shitty situation...then cut ties but get everyone's #...
