Re: Help with figuring out the Mapex Line

I just ordered a MyDentity kit recently. As I understand it the MyDentity are the same shells as the Meridians. Some say the MyDentity is just above Meridians but I have seen anything that describes...

Re: Tablet as a music stand?

So I used my mini last night for practice. I cannot see the whole set at once so that does concern me a bit. But it was easy to see and no extra lighting needed for my notes like it is for paper. I...

Re: Covering Songs that Have Percussion

My cover band plays Feelin alright. I play a conga beat on my 10 and 12" toms when the drum kit is not playing or is less prominent. In fact I start the song with the conga beat on the toms...

Re: Tablet as a music stand?

This is an older thread but just looking into this myself. I just got an iPAD Mini and am experimenting with using it in place of my three ring binder on stage.

My current method
I use a...

Re: Keith Carlock

It was a great show last night and Keith was very good. Clean, dynamic and when needed powerful. His closing fills in Aja were very good but I do prefer Steve Gadd's studio version. But having seen a...

Re: Drumming dreams

I have gig dreams, not of me actually playing but the set up. And not like the night before, just at random times. Curious.

Re: Keith Carlock

Going to see Keith and Steely Dan tonight. First time I am able to see one of my favorite bands. And if I only had one song to listen to the rest of my life it would be Home At Last and it is on the...

Re: Ian Paice rocks!!!

He has always been on my short list of best rock drummers. Machine head was the first rock album I ever bought. His technical skills are impressive but his application of his skills was equally...

Re: You and your practice regimen, come clean

Most of the past year and a half most of my practice has been learning songs. When I first started playing again 3 years ago I spent most of my practice on basics and rudiments.

Now I tend to...

Re: The ubiquity of smaller kits

Seems to me things went smaller and now I see more drummers adding drums to the left of the HH. Extra snares and floor toms.

I just don't understand why anyone judges. Get the kit you want or need...

Re: Shallow toms - 20x16" Bass 8 10 12 14FT - Advice

Finally received confirmation the drums are in production. 40-45 days lead time to ship. I was bummed about 30!

Not thrilled with Mapex communications post order since it took over a week for any...

Re: Poo sounding 12" Rack?

Could it be that it sounds bad to you from behind the kit? Have someone else hit the drums with you at varying distances from the kit. Possibly even close your eyes or look away.

Re: The state of pop music

I agree with this sentiment. There was some incredible album rock in the 70s. But take a look at the music that shows up on the 70s decade hits CD selling on TV. Pop is pop and always will be. I like...

Re: Why the "hate" for nylon tips??

Well not really experienced at gigs in jazz but I was thinking about the ride articulation. But that is just speculation on my part.

Re: Why the "hate" for nylon tips??

I just don't care for the sound. If I were playing some very light jazz I would probably consider them.

Re: What's your latest purchase?

I almost bought the Carmichael too. I understand from my Dr that the Carmichael can alleviate some problems male bicyclers have as well.

But my Roc n Soc works well for my needs.

Re: Drinking and Drumming

I am not a big drinker anyway so not an issue for me. But on occasions I do have a beer between the first and second set, and sometimes during another break.

Since I don't drink much I am...

Re: 76' Vistalites $$$ back then?

I had a mid 70s blue vistalite set, 6 8 10 12 14 15 16ft 22 bd and supra snare, 2 crashes and a ride and HH

As far as I can remember I had a total of $2400 into that set. I did buy it in two...

Re: Shallow toms - 20x16" Bass 8 10 12 14FT - Advice

Yes it is! I took about 2 weeks to try different configurations, sizes, finishes, and hardware though chrome was pretty much a given for me. At the same time I tried a few different sets. I am...

Re: Shallow toms - 20x16" Bass 8 10 12 14FT - Advice

Lowering my toms was not my primary reason. But those toms are as low as they can get. Granted I could still flatten them more but they would be sitting higher. I also have relatively short arms. I...
