Re: 15" snares

Are head options limited with a 15" size? I'm used to 12-14" snares, so 15" is a bit of an oddball. I quickly looked at Evans website and under their snare batter section, they don't even offer an...

Re: Need Help with New Kit - From the Ground Up

Both kits are about equal in quality. You wouldn't know the difference between the two if you heard them in a recording. I would try to find the best deal on them and see which one looks prettiest....

Re: Piece by piece more expensive?

Tama made a limited Silverstar "Zep" kit. Its a 26/13/16/18 kit. There is one on eBay right now for $799. Its not a natural finish, but it has the sizes you are looking for.

Great deal on Gretsch Renown

Not trying to advertise, just letting people know about a good deal. Musicians Friend has some Gretsch Renown 4 piece (plus 8" tom) shell packs on sale for $899. 8/10/12/14/20 kits (no snare) in...

Re: Are you a drum person or a cymbal person

I have never thought of myself as a cymbal person, but now that I think about it I typically have 1.5x more cymbals set up than I do drums. So my 8 piece kit had 12 cymbals set up. My 7 piece had...

Re: Paiste 2002, B8 but why do they sound so good?

A buddy of mine started drumming right around the same time I did in the early 90's. I started off with Zildjian A's and he went with the Paiste 2oo2's. Wow, big difference between these two...

Re: Wood snares---woddy sound. Help

I'm just thinking out loud here, but for a country/nashville type of sound, don't you want a snare with more body to it? Something in the 7" range that gets a bit more tone out of the drum? I would...

Re: Who does this, really?

I'm sure the drums can handle the bumps and bruises of gigging, however giving them some sort of protection, even if its just blankets wrapping around them, will prolong their use and allow you to...

Re: PDP concept or Sonor select?

If you can get the S-Drives for less than $1K I would do that. I like the hardware better, the mostly north american maple shells, and the finishes better than the PDP kits.

Re: A tip for guys with wraps

Its called 303 Aerospace Protectant. We in the E-drum world use it to clean rubber cymbals and pads. Great stuff. A bit pricey, but a bottle will last years.

Re: DW VLT and X-Shells

DW has tons of information on their shell construction on the internet. DW's website describes these shell configurations:

Re: Judge Says Teen Drummer's Playing Isn't a Nuisance

Dude, I'm a residential architect on the north shore of Chicago. You don't have to tell me about stupid permits. ;) But if someone just has a love for woodworking and wants to build their own...

Re: offset kit configuration opinions?

Try playing a double bass set and you will see that the hi hats have to be further over than a standard setup. I actually like the hats a bit further over. It allows my snare hand to move a bit...

Re: Judge Says Teen Drummer's Playing Isn't a Nuisance

I wonder if this was such an issue because it was drumming and not just some other noise.

For example, what if your neighbor was a carpenter and ran power tools all day long? Is that acceptable...

Re: Judge Says Teen Drummer's Playing Isn't a Nuisance

Holy crap!!! Is that an Acrolite?!?!?!?!?! That kid must be a GOD at the drums.

Anyway, I agree that playing in a garage with no insulation and a bare concrete floor will only amplify the...

Re: Maple custom absolute! wow!

The local Guitar Center had a MCA kit in 10/12/14/16/22 for $1500. All hanging toms with aluminum die cast hoops and hardware. So I would say your deal isnt that amazing.

Re: Can you Custom Order Odd Drums from the Big Names

I would imaging you can only get custom sizes in their custom lines. So there is no chance you could get a Ludwig Epic 24x12 bass drum. It would have to be a Legacy or Custom Classic bass drum,...

Re: Paying for a badge?

Well, its basically a Pearl Sensitone Steel, but has different lugs, tension rods, and snare wires. I guess it also has an internal damper as well. For ~$110 more, I wouldn't say its overpriced. ...

Re: How sentimental are you about your drums?

Re: How sentimental are you about your drums?

Well, the black Tama kit I posted above sold today. Got $200 for it. Not bad considering most people can't even give old Tama Rockstars away. But that $200 will go towards some other drums, or...

I filled out the survey, but I'm not the target audience of a TD-11KV. Hope that doesn't skew your results.

Re: How to remove badges?

Im not sure what the inside of your grommets look like, but my Rockstars had the grommets all cut and bent over the inside of the shell. I uses a small screwdriver and pried up the bent edges and...

Re: How sentimental are you about your drums?

I have a bit of a soft spot for my first kit. An 8 piece Tama Rockstar DX. My mom purchased it for me after my dad had died back in '93. I still own it all, and it has just gotten massive over the...
