Re: Is "pocket" what you play or how you play it?

I prefer the term "Groove", no idea where pocket came from, its not even descriptive of of a band being "Tight".

When a song sounds "right", and moves you in some way, then the musicians are...

Re: Is "pocket" what you play or how you play it?

Its not what or how, Its where you play. Play in the right place and that is the pocket.

Re: Meytal Cohen? She plays, right?

Its no sweat. If people promote themselves and big themselves up using social media then they also leave themselves wide open to being put down by the same method. Live by the sword etc.

Re: It finally happened...the snareless gig

Forgeting big things like drums or a hardware bag are not on my list of worries but smaller items are. Thats why I have sticks a drum key, a hi-hat clutch and snare wires in my drum pedal case, my...

Re: Ever look back at videos of yourself playing and cringe?

Nah, I like to live in the moment. If I enjoyed the gig and the audience enjoyed the gig then its good enough for me.

I play cos I love it so I wont sweat details like "How am I looking".

Re: Going to shows of a band you got rejected from a good idea?

Move on and find or form a band that wants you as a member. Life is too short to waste it on things you cant control.

Re: My Band Frustrations

Sorry to hear about your dog, I know how much it hurts when the old friend dies. When my old Airedale, Winston, died I was devastated and cried for days. I am not joking when I say It was emotionaly...

Re: It Happened Again!!

Quite, If you cant play the song through then you are not ready.

You cant punch in during a gig so the song should be ready to gig.

Re: Funnest Gig you've ever played?

What is that chicken wire thing all about? Is America the only place where they have to cage the band behind wire mesh cos punters throw stuff at them? and its acceptable behaviour?

Anyway, not a...

Re: HELP, permanent beastmode

I dont see the problem with using the stick tip to hit the cymbal. You say its because your practice space is now smaller? If its just for practice the tone of the cymbal means little, Its accuracy...

Re: HELP: Which road do I take?

What do you enjoy doing the most, the covers or the originals? only you can answer that.

If its just about money then its a no brainer.

Dont know what you mean about taking up your weekends,...

Re: Beginner and older...

Ha, 42. I have my first gig with the first band I have been in, after a 35 year hiatus, in February, I am 63 in March. Age is meaningless in every kind of music but pop.

The most important thing...

Re: Playing for Teacher

Probably a mental throwback to the "Teacher" at school where we were all very much growing up, innocent, and being instructed in all things by a figure of authority.

Turn it on its head, you are...

Re: Playing for the song, but still leaving a bit of "yourself" on the track.

Right there you have the pros and the cons of modern recording technology. Ease of recording location/time, versus the push and pull of musicians playing and recording together and being in the...

Saying the most while playing the least is, for me, the sign of a great musician.

Re: Playing for the song, but still leaving a bit of "yourself" on the track.

A hired gun, unless they are famous, play what they are told. If you are hired for your sound and style then tuning, dynamics and phrasing are what comes over.

Re: Funny recording experience

Dont get me wrong I am not against technology, but If I am in a band and want to record said band then a performance recording, as much as possible, always sounds better to me, with overdubs.

Re: DW aquires Gretsch and Latin Percussion...

[/B]

I would much rather have them owned by someone who is in love with drumming and cares about the brand rather than just adding another buck to the bottom line. Me, perhaps???

Re: DW aquires Gretsch and Latin Percussion...

Oh no, another great marque going the same way as all the others absorbed by the giants. No I am not keen on DW. Over priced, over hyped and over here.

Re: Funny recording experience

Apologies in advance, I am an old f**t, but all this talk of clicks and grids just makes me cringe.

If it feels and sounds good keep it, if not do it again till it does.
