Re: Drumming pain

Sounds to me like you could be choking the sticks. Maybe not enough for most to notice, but enough to do some damage. I had this problem myself for a long time, and it wasn't until I really started...

Re: playing to loops and drumless recordings vs jamming

Playing with records is easy, but still good practice. Your best bet though is to download some drumless music - you can find tons of it for free all over the net. Check Youtube, and rip them using...

Re: Pretty Cool Old CB Kit

A guitarist for some guys I've been jamming with also plays drums, and in his home he has the higher end Ludwig accents. (ten lug bass drum) Not sure of the exact model. But in another space where we...

Re: Repairing Drum scuffs?

Yeah, I done some looking, and I think the puddy will be my best bet. I'll probably try it on something else first and make sure it doesn't somehow make the scuffs look worse.

Repairing Drum scuffs?

Hope there isn't another thread about this

I have some drum shells that have been scuffed and scratched pretty good. I've attempted to refinish the drums, but the scuffs are so deep they kinda'...

Re: Are these drums quality or just fake?

I found a DK Custom Drums website with some testimonials. They don't seem to be affiliated with Twisted Sick Drums Works, so I'd say they're legit.

Re: My humble take on good drummers and OK drummers

Oh I wasn't trying to defile Adler, or even people who admire his playing. It just isn't my cup of tea, and I really take no interest in it. People tried to convince me to play double pedal, and I...

Re: My humble take on good drummers and OK drummers

I play a four piece kit, big drums, one or two crash cymbals, socks, and a ride. For me, good drumming is about complimenting the music. The second I can tell a drummer is trying to just jam stuff in...

Re: Chops?

I've always looked at this way, as wrong as it may be. Chops are your flairs. Bells & whistles.

Re: More questions about click tracks!

3/3. Nailed it. I was gonna' respond in a similar fashion, but eh. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Re: Drummers who've inspired your playing

I'm sure I've posted here before, but I'll do it again.

Jean-Paul Gaster
John Bonham
Bobby Schayer

I actually took lessons from JP via Bandhappy, simply because my motifs and overall...

Re: Advice for a beginner

I'm gonna' go with John Bonham's philosophy, because I feel it rings best with beginners. Feel is more important than technique - a lot of guys will want to see me fried for saying it, but piss on...

Re: What makes a band?

One thing - chemistry

You gotta' have a team / group of people who care equally about the music they're making. I think a good band can be a bunch of great friends, or it can be people who gather...

Re: How do -you- practice?

My daily practice is a few grooves, maybe with music, but more often with a metronome. I try to play a lot of shuffle patterns, and things to keep my arms rust free, dabbling in some open handed...

Re: Knocking off the rust...

I can't imagine spending that much time away from the drums. Once upon a time I did have to keep them in storage for six months, which almost pushed me into depression. I have phases with the drums...

Re: Wearing hearing protection issue

On rare occasions I'll forget my "ear plugs" at home, and have no choice by to play without them. In all honesty, I don't do it to protect my hearing, as much as I do to hear the music's true sound....

Re: Bass drum - heel up or down?

It's ideal for everyone to use both. Not even in song applications, but switching from up to down in the same song. Watching a Thomas Lang video, the thing that stuck out with me the most was his...

Re: Has your band ever been told what you can or can't play?

There's a place in Knoxville, TN called The Longbranch Saloon. It was a big place for Punk n' Alt bands. Even some Metal and Hard Rock groups played. It used to be packed on the weekends, with 8...

Re: Do you talk drums and drumming with your significant other?

First year or so we were together, and maybe a brief period after marriage, we talked about it quite a bit. After that, I was told the truth... She was bored by it. That's really why I'm here. When...

Re: I found Gadd's Chiropractor here in NYC!!!!

Sorry this doesn't go with the "Steve Gadd" portion of the topic, but is a chiropractor something a lot of guys do? When I do a lot of practice, or gigs I tend to get a few aches and pains in my...

Re: Rolling Stones in Hyde Park 2013

The Stone praise Daryl from what I've seen, but I don't think he'll ever be publicized (sp?) as a member of the band. Mick, Keith and Charlie have been in for the long haul, and Ronnie is no new...

Re: Any pre gig routine?

I like to eat pre-gig. It's not unusual for me to walk up the kit with a mouthful of Subway, or even (dare I say it) fast food. I also like to drink a beer or two prior to the gig. I don't do it all...

Re: Bonham training DVDs

That's a tough one, man. I mean, everybody talks a lot about Bonham's technique, but for the most part, he was really straight forward. A lot of forearm in his strokes, and just a very heavy emphasis...

Re: Most egotistical genre ;)

From personal experience, most guys into metal seem to think they're the gods of drumming. The Tenacious D tune "The Metal" is ringing in my head now. Some metal is okay - I'm really fond of In...

Re: The Live Music Scene

I live in East Tennessee. In my small town, there isn't much music at all. A few bars hire country or classic rock tribute bands, and there's a few bands who jam around, but as far as a live music...
