Re: Rhythm Magazine/Music Radar review - Guru In-Tense english ash snares.

While positive, I felt the review was a bit generic and sterile. Devoid of any emotional connection with the instrument. Never got the feeling that a real human, much less a drummer, was conducting...

Re: Multiple Kit Owners, Show Your Favorite Kit

Of four kits I own, three would be impossible to part with:

1. Tama Star bubinga 5 piece in dark green cordia.
2. Tama Starclassic Select bubinga 7-piece in marbled green metallic
3. Pearl...

Re: Need help identifying exact model of this starclassic snare please

Clearly diecast hoops from the pic. Tama hasn't used that throw off in years, at least not since the early 2000s. My guess, and it is just that, is that it's one of the first Starclassic offerings....

Re: Update: 2014 Nashville Drum Show and Snare Drum Olympics

Sounds like a great event. I'll take the winners' list with a grain of salt, however, because the best snare drums I've heard, played, and own (Guru) likely won't be included in the competition.

Re: Backline gear nightmares

Like most of you, I can recount countless train wreck stories of situations when I used a backline kit that had no right to be provided on a professional stage. Played a festival this spring though...

Re: My Camco Refurb with pix!

Not sure how I missed this but I'm glad this thread has been resurrected. What an extraordinary end result. OP has some serious skills. Ordinarily I could care less about vintage drums but these are...

Re: Is Dennis Chambers ill?

If you find yourself in the Baltimire/DC area look me up. Dinner is on me.

Re: Some Pearl Reference Pure porn ;)

Love the kit and non-traditional set up! Another option for a different kick pedal feel is to switch out the beaters. I generally use the Pearl quad beaters on my DD as I never liked the stock felt...

Re: The matching snare

I prefer to have a matching snare for my high-end kits for potential resale value if nothing else, so three of my kits have them. In fact my Tama Star 6x13 sounds so incredible that I was going to...

Re: Bass vs. drums challenge video - released here first :)

My that kit in the center sounded so phat and full. Well done Andy. Superb playing by all involved.

Re: Snare Trouble

I'm sure you can get a better sound out of this drum but be aware that the snares are the weak link in kits at this price point. I once owned a maple Pro M kit, predecessor to the Meridians, and the...

Re: Jeff Beck w/ Vinnie (Full Crossroads 07 Set)

Why does Vinnie overplay (at times)? Because he can.

Re: Ludwig P-85 rant

The same factories may be making hardware for most manufacturers but the specs have to be different. My high-end Tama and Pearl drums use metal of a higher grade/quality than Ludwig uses. Don't need...

Re: What's your latest purchase?

This little fella matches my kit. It is a 6x13 that has such great pop to it. Fun to play.

Re: I've played only TAMA for years, looking to switch up

I'm a Tama guy with three kits. Love them all. My Pearl Reference kit is pretty awesome as well but at the end of the day, the Tamas are the best built, best looking, and best sounding non-custom...

Re: Drums vs. cymbals

You can tune a drum but you can't tuna fish, or a cymbal. So far cymbals are the unanimous choice.

Re: In need of a shallow bass drum, what's out there?

My solution for a cramped stage was to purchase a djembe. Bandleader loves it. I watched one "how to" video on You Tube and I was off and running. Best load ins/outs I've ever had!

Re: Keith Carlock with Toto

Indeed. As a drummer, I'm surprisingly not a fan of drum solos but I was awed. The groove was never abandoned. Wow!
