Agree... but I've been in bigger vehicles my entire drum kit/upright bass playing life. Hatchbacks mostly, beater station wagons, pickup's with caps, big vans, mini vans, utility trailers...

There are a number of higher end kits sold as shell packs, without snares. Which starts the journey.

I like a couple of things in a snare...

At least 8 lugs
dry sound
coated head
16 to 20...

I never really thought about it. I see lots of bundled kits with matching snares, they look okay. I have a chrome snare and my last set didn't have a matching snare but it was natural finished...

I, personally have only seen dented Remo heads. Perhaps because I have seen less of other brands.

I have never dented a head but I'm not a hard hitter, never cracked a cymbal...
